We Engage We Educate We Inspire
Hello Stallions!
We had a great week at the Ranch! One of our SPICE preschoolers whispered a whole sentence to tell what she wanted several times yesterday. One of Mrs. Rich’s reading lessons took an unexpected turn for the better! The story they were reading had a common theme with a previous story and the students did an amazing job completing a double bubble comparing the two. Mrs. Shaffer’s has a math group able to subtract with regrouping independently. Mrs. Engle’s (K) class as a whole is doing extremely well in following directions inside and outside the classroom. Ms. Church’s (5th) class is doing well with their AR goals/independent reading, they are on top of their reading! Mrs. Ott’s (1st) students are doing really well with word problems - first grade rocked it last year! These are just a few of the successes at the Ranch last week!
In case you didn’t see this information from the district office, the Gilbert Public Schools’ Governing Board advanced four candidates in the superintendent selection process.
The candidate names and current titles are:
- Dr. Anna Battle, Assistant Superintendent in Tempe Union School District
- Dr. Steve Chestnut, Superintendent of Maricopa Unified School District
- Dr. Shannon Goodsell, Superintendent of Casa Grande Union School District
- Mr. Shane McCord, Assistant Superintendent in Mesa Public Schools.
The four candidates are invited to attend a community forum, which is open to the public, 6 p.m. Sept.19, at Campo Verde High School, 3870 S Quartz St., Gilbert, Arizona. Community members will be asked to submit comment cards at the end of the event. All comments will be provided to the Board for review.
The Board will meet after the community forum to review and possibly consider a final candidate. The Governing Board may choose to offer to enter into contract negotiations with a finalist and hopes to make a selection at a Governing Board meeting in the near future. The new superintendent will begin duties as determined through contract negotiations. I would encourage everyone to attend the community forum on the 19th.
Gilbert Public Schools is committed to a learning environment free of discrimination. Towards that goal, GPS Governing Board has adopted new policies that provide guidance and procedures to address concerns. Our Kinderstallions are still working on their colors! This week they learn the color BROWN. On Thursday we are encouraging everyone to wear BROWN!
