Planning Ahead!

Spring break begins on Monday, April 11. There will be no school from Monday, April 11 through Monday, April 18. School resumes on Tuesday, April 19.

Personal Belongings at School

We want to remind parents that personal belongings that do not have to do with the school's education program should remain at home. This includes Pokemon cards, Legos, and other toys. These items distract students from the learning process and may result in student belongings getting lost or damaged.

Here is an excerpt from our Parent-Student Handbook (available on the GLC website):

....Do not allow your child to bring items to school that are not part of the educational program, unless requested by the teacher. This includes toys, games, trading cards, marbles, and other such items. Checking your child’s bags and pockets to ensure adherence to this policy is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help in creating a strong learning environment for all of our students.

Dress Code Reminders

We would also like to remind parents about our dress code expectations. Items that advertise or reference drugs, alcohol, or other age-inappropriate activities are not allowed. Similarly, items that could cause harm to a student - either to him/herself or others - are also not permitted. These include sharp objects, such as studded jewelry and long nails. A useful reminder for students is that just like behavior expectations are different at school or work than other locations (e.g., sporting events, etc.), so is our dress code.

Here are excerpts from our Parent-Student Handbook (available on the GLC website):

.... Clothing, jewelry, and personal items shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which are crude, vulgar, profane, or sexually suggestive; which bear drug, alcohol, or tobacco company advertising, promotions, or likeness; which promote violence, illegal activity, or relate to gang affiliation or activity.

.... Attire or accessories which may be used (intentionally or accidentally) as a weapon are not allowed. This includes chains and items with spikes or studs.

Seeking Volunteers for our World's Fair!

The GLC World's Fair is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 13th. The GLC World's Fair is an evening of fun and community, similar to the fall festivals held at other schools. We aim to also incorporate learning by featuring activities (e.g., games, crafts) from around the world! If you would like to assist with planning or volunteering, please let us know by completing our World's Fair Volunteer Survey.

Enrollment for 2022-23

We are continuing to accept applications for the 2022-23 school year. If space is not available in your child’s grade, she/he will be placed on a waiting list by grade level. Seats will be offered on a first-come, first-serve, basis. We currently have waitlists at several grade levels. A few spaces are available at grades K, 1, and 2. If you have friends or family who may be interested in attending GLC, please share this information with them. Applications are available on our website and in our front office.

Expanding access to Transitional Kindergarten

For the 2022-23 school year, the state of California is expanding access to transitional kindergarten programs. Students who will turn five by February 2nd, 2023, are eligible to enroll in universal transitional kindergarten (UTK). This is a new optional grade that precedes Kindergarten. Parents may opt to enroll their child in preschool or UTK. If you have a child who will turn 5 by 2/2/23 and would like her/him to attend GLC, please complete an Enrollment Requiest Form. More information about GLC's UTK program to come soon!
