A Year of Gratitude
September 13, 2019
From the Principal...
Dear Seton Families,
I want to share with you the following message:
September 10, 2019
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The beginning of September marks a new beginning. Of course, Jan. 1 marks the chronological beginning of a new year, and July marks the beginning of the fiscal year, but September marks the beginning of the school year. It was a very strange experience when I received my first priestly assignment, as this marked my first September away from seminary life and educational curriculum. I realized that this was the first time in my life, since I was four, that I was not preparing for a year of class participation. Little did I realize that, within six months, I would be back in the seminary to continue my relationship with seminary education for the next 25 years. Please don’t get me wrong; I like school. Think of how our education has contributed to the formation of our approach to life and analysis of our society.
The majority of my education has been in Catholic schools at the levels of primary, secondary, collegiate and post-collegiate. I must admit, being grounded in the sense of the spiritual from the time I entered kindergarten gave me a larger sense of the reality of existence. My world was not merely the material, but it also included the spiritual. God is Creator and Master of the seen and unseen world. In the primary and secondary levels, prayers established the beginning of studies. God was considered the priority in our personal lives, our studies and our actions. I am a supporter of Catholic education, especially for the integral formation it builds upon the fullness of life.
Early in the development of our country, it was parochial schools that filled the educational void. The State needed religious schools. However, I would offer that the State needs religious schools more today than ever. Parochial schools will produce responsible and civic-minded citizens, instill a sense of moral responsibility and train their students in the aspect of social justice.
On Sept. 19, 2019, at Mount Mary University, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee will sponsor its annual Pallium Lecture. The featured speaker is Bishop Gerald Kicanas, a nationally recognized leader in Catholic education. I had the privilege of serving with Bishop Kicanas as he led the University of Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein into its transition as a national seminary, representing some 44 dioceses within the United States. He currently chairs the National Council of Catholic Education (NCEA), which helps to lead educational leaders in their school ministry. The topic he will address at this year’s Pallium Lecture is “Catholic Education: A Challenge and a Blessing for the Church in Southeastern Wisconsin.” What are the viable models being used to invigorate Catholic universities? Do we recognize the contribution of Catholic schools to the formation of responsible members of our society? The ministry of education is presented as an extension of committed discipleship.
Our moderator will be Dr. Dan Scholz of Cardinal Stritch University. Responders will be Dr. Kathleen Cepelka, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee; Dr. William Henk of Marquette University; and Mr. Jose Vasquez, who was president of St. Anthony School, the largest parochial school in the nation. The lecture, discussion and Q&A will take place in the Mount Mary University Alumnae Dining Room at 6:30 p.m. A reception with drinks and hors d’oeuvres to greet and meet the presenter and responders will be held from at 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation partnered with the archdiocese tp sponsor the Pallium Lecture. The goal of hosting the Pallium Lecture is to present the problems facing society, as well as to discuss the strategies for solutions.
Mount Mary University forged a path for higher education through the efforts of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, who dedicated their lives to the establishment of the college. Mount Mary stands as a tribute to the contributions made by all religious who serve the community in the field of education. The current president, Dr. Christine Pharr, carries on that great tradition.
Please join me on Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Mary University. We can educate ourselves in choosing to LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki
Archbishop of Milwaukee
Thank you for being a part of our Seton Catholic School Community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephanie Nardi, Principal

Safety for All
Please help us by following school policies and procedures. Parents, volunteers, and visitors MUST sign in at the office when they are in the school from 7:45 to 3:00. The only exception to this is the drop-off of a child in 4K or kindergarten. Those early childhood students may be walked to their classrooms beginning at 7:45. Any children in grades 1-8 should NOT be accompanied by a parent or guardian into the hallways. We will make an exception to this on the first week of school. Parents and guardians are welcome to drop-off forgotten items or leave messages for their children in the school office during the day. While you are welcome to come in for lunch with your child, please stop in the office to sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave.
Door access during school hours is restricted. From 7:30 to 8am the front main doors on Superior and the back door off of the playground will be unlocked for student entry. Prior to 7:30, all doors will be locked to the building.
At 7:55am the back door will be locked. All students or guests arriving after 7:55am must enter through the main doors on Superior Avenue and go to the office to sign in. At no time during school hours, 7:30am to 3:30pm, should anyone be entering any of our other doors even if they have a key to the building. The main doors on Superior Avenue are the only allowed entrance from 7:55am to 3:30pm.
Together we can keep all of students and staff.
Drop-off and Pick-up
When picking up your children at the end of the day, our procedures are the same as last school year. In the back parking lot the drive through lane is for entering and exiting the lot only. There should be no students entering or exiting a vehicle in this lane.
Students in grades 5-8 may walk to a parked vehicle and may escort a younger sibling. Students in grades K-4 will remain behind the cones to be picked up by a parent or guardian. 4K students should be picked up in their classroom.
From Home and School
Save your Coke bottle caps and codes from 12 and 24-packs. Turning them in to school helps generate money for fundraising efforts.
The biggest Home and School fundraiser of the school year will kick off September 13th. Watch for sale packets in next week's Friday folder.
