Outdoor School
The day began with worship, as it always should. After that, kids divided into class groups, where they rotated between four stations. Each station asked the kids to either pay close attention to some element of nature, or work together in groups to solve some problem.
Ultimately, every child enjoyed a combination of worship, outdoor science, and fun interaction with classmates. The day was such a success that staff and students alike were unanimous in saying, "This needs to be an annual event." If that's true, stay tuned for next year's edition.

Fun, Fun, Fun!! Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
There is so much to do for all ages! The students will get to make and taste apple cider from scratch and enjoy a fresh baked famous apple cider donut. After this tasty event, the children will visit their large selection of farm animals, and trek though their challenging maze before enjoying a hayride to the pumpkin field, where each child chooses a pumpkin, gourd, and Indian corn to take home.
For this to be a success, we need your help. If you are able to help drive and chaperone, please indicate on the permission slip coming home tomorrow.
Lunch will be provided.

FILLIN' BOOTS FOR BEIRUT
There is a way we can help them. If we provide the money, the director can buy decent rain boots locally for the children for about $5 a pair. There are about 65 students at the school, so our goal is to provide the money for as many boots as possible by the end of October. Each classroom will have a boot in it which the children can fill with donations. The students and staff alike are eager to help these children have the shoes they need.

Let Preschoolers Build Their Own Library
Our preschool reading program is in full swing. Please pick up a pink reading sheet on top of the cubbies. Return it next Mon - Wed, and enter a drawing for the book: The Bear Ate Your Sandwich. We are reading one copy in class, and one lucky child will go home with their own copy of the book!
The month of October also brings a much loved field trip to Bauman's Farm and Pumpkin Patch on October 25. Pick out a pumpkin, drink fresh apple cidar and sample apple cidar donuts, feed farm animals, go through mazes, zoom down slides, and ride tricycles on a track. This is a fun field rip to do with your preschooler, if you can get the time off!.
Preschoolers will also be singing out their hearts at the Lebanon SDA church program on October 22. Please save the date!
And Finally, our Harvest Party will be Saturday, October 29th at 6:30, with a Chili cook-off. Lots of fun to be had!
K-1 - Mrs. Bates
Writing: Once you know how to hold a pencil correctly, you can start to learn how to make letters and numbers. It's even more fun if you know a song to help you remember them! (Ask your child to sing about numbers 1-5). Once you can make letters, then words separated by spaces are your next challenge. You can write words? Then by all means, write a sentence or more!
Math: Numbers and their words are lots of fun, and so are adding and subtracting! Who can write a subtraction sentence? Ask your child to find the difference between two numbers tonight.
Look Out: Coming home soon will be a "home copy" of our Reading Records to help each student track the books they read at home. At the end we will combine them with the "school copy" to see them meet their goal of 30 books this year.
Literacy Tip: When you are singing out of a song book at church this weekend, have your child follow along, their finger with yours, as you track the words. This will help them get used to reading in a top-to-bottom and left-to-right direction in a simple, non-threatening way. Bonus: they might learn a new song! Happy singing!
