The Lance
April 3-April 10
The mission of Lakeshore Middle School is to promote collaboration between educators, students, and families to foster engaged learners and active and compassionate
members of their community.
Reflections from Mr. Swegles
Let’s be very clear, however. It is merely our building that is closed. That’s it. Teaching and learning have not stopped. It never did. They just look different. Learning and social-emotional supports are still taking place thanks to our amazing LMS staff. Since the beginning of our closure, our teaching staff has been putting in a tremendous effort to provide learning opportunities to keep our students engaged in learning. We will continue to do just that despite our building closure.
District and building administration, along with our teaching staff, are having an ongoing conversation on our best course of action in moving forward that provides academic supports to our students, in addition to providing social and emotional support during this time of crisis. I will share that plan with you as soon as it set.
In the meantime, put you (the parent) and your family's health first and foremost. As mentioned, this is a time of crisis for many and not one with an easy or clear transition. Take the next 10 days of Spring Break to step away from learning opportunities and focus on what matters most. Those closest to us.
Mrs. Southard and Caring Cupboard
At this point, it's getting harder for folks who have non-essential jobs. And when people go to the stores, some of the most needed items are not on the shelves. Caring Cupboard is fully stocked, and there is no reason we can't empty the Cupboard during the shutdown. I've included a link in this email that you can share with families who may mention they are in need of food. They will have to share their phone number and set an appointment to pick up the food. The form allows people to "shop" our cupboard virtually. Some items are in good supply, others are more limited, so I am trying my best to avoid waste by picking each order rather than giving away pre-set bags that might contain unwanted items.
Here is the link to the google form for ordering food from Caring Cupboard.

If you know of people wanting to help others, I've attached a list of our top 10 needs as well.

LPS Food Service
We will continue to provide meals at our 4 sites through the week of spring break. The vans will arrive at 11:30 and stay until 12:15.
One sack contains breakfast and lunch. We will not be doing meals for the weekends at this time.
All children 18 and under can take a meal. Parents or children can pick them up. Please do not pick up if you are ill and remember to stay 6 feet apart.
Please call Pam Greiffendorf at 428-1400 x2965 or email pgreiffendorf@lpslancer.net with any questions.
Upcoming Dates and Events
We will be determining how best we can distribute the remaining locker contents to students. Please, be patient as we create that plan.
