Mrs. Hindsman's Class Updates
Week of: Oct. 10-14
Hello Parents!
Wow, with field day, parent conferences and the fundraiser we have rocked a lot of fun events this week! I am so excited to announce that we raised $2,162.00 last night - this should be enough to cover the charter buses to the Alamo AND the fee to get into the Institute of Texan Cultures! YAY!!!
It was an amazing turnout and we want to thank you so much for all of the support!!! I am so proud of my students for being risk takers tonight and showing their art and reciting their poetry! We will have so much fun in March traveling to San Antonio!!
Reading: This week we focused on character evolution in texts and how plot events help to shape our characters development and their change through the story. We plotted our character change with grade level texts, but also with Disney short films. You could definitely have your child do this at home with their favorite movie!
Writing: This week we began our realistic fiction pieces with discussing building our characters inside and outside traits. They also created a plot centered around what their character wants and the conflict that evolves their character. Extremely high level and not an easy task - what great authors they are learning to be!
Math: We began to build the foundation of financial literacy this week. Students explored the theory of budgeting with fixed and variable expenses and looking at savings options. Next week we will be diving into calculating a profit INCLUDING calculating the profit of our Instructional Fundraiser and budgeting our field trip. :)
Social Studies/Science: This week your student took their science benchmark after finishing up our discussion of animal adaptations and learned and inherited traits. We will be beginning to delve deeper into our How We Organize Ourselves unit by creating a tribe next week.
We did not have spelling this past week, but normal spelling will pick up next week Oct 17th-22nd.
