Broadway Performer, Ben Bogen to work with Littleville's Fifth Grade Students and Chester's Third Grade Students

The Littleville and Chester PTO's have secured a guest artist, Ben Bogen to come and work with some of our elementary school students this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Our students are extremely lucky to have the opportunity to work with Ben Bogen. A little about him: he is a New York based actor, singer, and dancer. A graduate of The University of Michigan with a B.F.A in Musical Theatre, Ben made his principle and National Tour debut at age 23 as the alternate for the lead role of Frankie Valli in the Broadway Tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys (one of the youngest actors in history of the production to cover the role). In addition to performing the lead role nearly 50 times, he went on for featured roles including Joe Pesci and Bob Crewe. Soon after concluding the tour, Ben made his Broadway debut in the ensemble of Disney’s Frozen on Broadway, understudying the principle roles of Olaf and Duke Weselton.

Look for pictures of Ben's visit in next week's Gator Bites. Thank you Littleville and Chester PTO's for this great opportunity for our fifth grade students!

The Arts at Gateway

Not only does Gateway Regional School District have a thriving band and choral program, our entire Arts Programs at all levels in the district are providing tremendous opportunities for our students. At the high school level, there are a variety of Art opportunities including digital photography, crafts, Art Foundations, Independent Study - for seniors to prepare their portfolios for entry into the workforce and/or college, graphic arts technology, painting, sculpture, drawing, drama and more. In fact, this year the computers for the graphic arts technology class were upgraded from IMacs to Apple Mac Studio computers. These new computers are made for graphic design and will better prepare our students for the workforce and/or demands at colleges in graphic design paths.

Illness Reminders and Updates

There have been many versions of our COVID protocol based on the evolving guidance from the DPH. As a reminder, our current protocol is as followed:

If a child has symptoms of illness they should not come to school and should follow the Covid-19 Protocol. Children with symptoms of illness in school will be evaluated by the nurse.

In addition to the Covid-19 Protocol, your child should remain home if:

  • Child has a contagious illness such as influenza (flu) or strep throat

    • Individuals who have a positive strep culture should stay home until they have had at least 24 hours of antibiotic therapy and fever is gone.

  • Child has a continuous cough or wheeze.

  • Child has diarrhea or vomiting associated with acute illness, not a chronic condition or side effect.

  • Child has crusty, green or yellow drainage from the eyes.

    • Diagnosed Conjunctivitis (pink eye) must be treated for 24 hours before return to school.

Documentation

When a child meets criteria to return to school, all doctors notes should be provided to the school for a medically excused absence.

If a child is feeling unwell at school, they must see the nurse for an assessment in order to be medically dismissed from school. Children who do not see the nurse for an assessment and are dismissed by a parent/guardian will be dismissed but it will not be a medically excused dismissal.
