Principal Notes
I hope everyone had nice holidays. As students return to classes, the first semester is coming to an end soon. The first semester final exams are January 19, 20, and 21. There is a final exam schedule that we will be following those three days, which link here link. The Tuesday before final exams we will be following an 8 period day without homeroom, here is a link to that schedule. With the exams coming up, please encourage your son or daughter to reach out to their teachers if they have questions and encourage them to start studying for their final exams or complete their end of semester projects.
Second semester will be begin on Tuesday, January 25, so before then have your son or daughter double check their schedule to make sure they have a complete schedule. Their schedule should be completed before the second semester begins to ensure they are not missing any class time. If your son or daughter has any questions or concerns about their schedule have them reach out to their counselor.
Lastly, I wanted to share with you that LeRoy Butler will be coming in to talk with all the students on Tuesday, January 25th at 2:00pm. He will be sharing his story and talking about bullying. LeRoy will also be connecting it to our building expectations, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind, and Be on Time.

Attendance
Attendance matters. When your child(ren) are well, it is important that they attend school and arrive on time! We have been sharing this message with the students, as well, as it is important for them to be here as well as make to class on time throughout the day. We have shared with them that to be respectful of their peers, staff, and their learning, getting to class on time is important. Being to school on time and class on time is an important habit to develop for life. Employers say one of the top reasons they fire their employees is due to the fact they are arriving late or not showing up at all. Students that are arriving late after lunch are starting to lose their open lunch privilege, as well as receiving lunch detention.
I understand that 89% of the students or more understand this, but I wanted to share this message with families as a way to support the staff on the importance of being at school on time and being to class on time. I used the 89%, as that is currently our attendance rate for all students at South. Our goal is 95% attendance rate by the end of the year. We appreciate all your support.
In an effort to keep attendance records accurate, the School District of Waukesha requires all absences, late arrivals, and early departures be logged in our Safe Arrival reporting system. Please follow these instructions for easy set up and use.
