Eagle Editorial
George W. Bush Elementary May 24th
Summer Letter from Dr. Helm
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe this is the final Eagle Editorial of the year! As we close the 20016-2017 school year, I would like to thank every one of you for supporting your child’s education by being an involved member of our school community. George W. Bush Elementary is a very special place and that is evident by the commitment our families and our staff make to our school. The many events and celebrations could never happen without your time and dedication! Once again, I would like to thank our PTA President Jamey Helms and our amazing board. Also a huge hug to our room moms, our volunteers, our Watchdogs our mentors and are awesome Pals!
Our first year has flown by, the memories we made, and traditions we have started will be remembered for a lifetime. We have truly enjoyed getting to know our GWB Eagles. Your kiddos show up everyday ready to learn and filled with excitement. They are the best part of our school. They never cease to amaze me with their kind hearts, resilient attitudes, and thoughtful nature. The school this summer will be so lonely without them. We cannot wait for their return. For our fourth graders we wish them all the best on the next part of their journey. They have been such a dynamic group of scholars. Our third graders have big shoes to fill. J
A little business: report cards will be coming home with each student. Teacher assignment information will be available on Meet the Teacher, August 17th. We spend a lot of time creating class list ensuring a mix of abilities, a mix of personalities and genders. We do not take teacher request, however, if you think there is a specific quality in a teacher that you feel is crucial for your child feel free to email me at Maricela.helm@wylieisd.net Again, please no specific names.
In this final Eagle Editorial, there is a lot of information pertaining to skills practice for the lower grades, our garden program, and summer reading. Please keep your kiddos on top of their game by practicing math skills and reading every day. There is also a link to online registration. All students must enroll every year. Please complete this process prior to the start of school.
The entire staff and faculty wishes every one of you a happy and relaxing summer! We look forward to a great 2017-2018 School Year!
Warmly,
Maricela Helm

"Hooked on Books Club"
You can become a member of the "Hooked on Books Club" by reading 1000 minutes this summer. This challenge is for all students. You may have a parent read to you or read the books yourself. Please record your time on this sheet (attach additional sheets of notebook paper, if necessary). The dates of the challenge are May 26, 2017 - August 21, 2017.
The reading log is due by September 8, 2017 to Mrs. Wood. We will honor all students who complete this challenge with a reception in the Fall of 2017. There will also be a plaque that will be placed in the George W. Bush Library that has each student's name on it.
Keep saving those Box Tops! Bring in at any time!
