Third Grade AIM
It's AIM Day!
Today in AIM
Last week/this week we continued our exploration of the various aspects of city planning. I know they really, really, really want to start building their cities but we have so much to learn before they start to design/build. We spent the last two classes learning about city zoning and I think their favorite part was getting onto the city of Allen interactive zoning map and seeing how the city is zoned for residential, commercial, or industrial (see link below). It was great to hear and see them make connections about why cities are planned the way they are (office building in the center of Allen, public facilities spread out around town, commercial zones along highway 121 etc., We also started our research about what experts predict future cities will look and function like. In groups they had to decide what area to focus on first (transportation, communications, energy etc.,) then they created a google doc so they could have a central place to keep their notes and discoveries.
