OLMP Staff modeling Service & Active Citizenship!
On November 30th OLMP Staff had a PD (Professional Development) Day dedicated as a day of service with a focus on team building, faith & wellness. As a Catholic School we emphasize the importance of taking care of those around us and our OLMP staff spent a day before the holiday season to model that and reflect on our spiritual selves as a way to slow down during a very busy time and work together to spread god’s love.
Our day began with some spiritual time as we reflected on what it means to be catholic educators. Our staff broke up into three groups for the next part of the day. Two groups went to Edmonton to work with the Mustard Seed and Hope Mission where we developed a greater understanding of the homeless population before connecting with that community as we socialized and prepared meals for them. The third group of staff stayed in Camrose and worked with the Camrose Association for Community Living (CAFCL) decorating the homes of community members with disabilities in Camrose.
It was a great day for our staff as a growing body of research shows that volunteering has a positive impact on your physical and mental health.
Students Activities this week
Our grade 5D student were some of the first students in the province to explore the new Royal Alberta Museum. The Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) is the largest museum in western Canada and one of the top museums in Canada.
Congratulations also to all the Grade 7 students who participated in Science Fair this week. A job well done by everyone involved! And a special congratulations to Connor Wenig and Wayde Cusack who finished first and Carys Aucoin, Lyla Young and Evann Burke who finished 2nd overall in the Science Fair.
Second week of Advent!
Prayer:
Father in heaven, during this second week of Advent, help us see clearly the times when we have sinned. Accept our sorrow for having pulled away from you, and give us firm resolve to stay close to you.
God above, help us conduct ourselves in holiness. We long to be the people you expect us to be. Help us as we strive to make our souls spotless and our hearts and minds at peace.
Help us, Lord, to remember that we were baptized for a reason. Help us realize our baptismal call to live as children of God.
And dear God, don’t let us miss chances this week to be welcoming to other people and to work in harmony with everyone. Help us as we try to change our ways so that we are good examples of people who love and follow the Lord.

Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Author: C. S Lewis
Recommended by: Paul Corrigan (EICS Assistant Superintendent)
Book Description: The story of four siblings and a magical journey through the Wardrobe to the fantastic land of Narnia.
Why it is recommended: C.S. Lewis wrote this amazing story to explain the Christian faith to his Goddaughter. An amazing story, that also teaches us much about our faith. A great story for all ages!
Modeling reading, reading with your children, and talking about the things they like to read are all ways to increase literacy and learning for our youth! Chat with your son or daughter about a book recommendation you could submit together! All submissions can be emailed to Mrs. Smith at kristys@eics.ab.ca
