NEWS FROM THE STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Suicide is preventable. Youth who are contemplating suicide frequently give warning signs. Do not be afraid to ask about suicidal thoughts or talk to your child about this topic. Never take warning signs lightly or promise to keep them secret. There are many supports and resources for students and families. Please reach out to your counselor if you have any concerns or questions about this important topic. For more information, visit the Preventing Youth Suicide site, from the National Association of School Psychologists.
Class of 2023:
- Many thanks to the 300+ Seniors who have attended a College Application Workshop, which we held during L&L for the past 2 weeks. And it was great to see so many families who were able to make it our Parent Workshop on Back To School Night! If you or your student were unable to attend any session, and if your student intends to apply to college this year, then it is vital that they watch the narrated presentation that can be found on the College Application Process webpage. This presentation, about 30 minutes long, reviews all the steps that must be taken before students can submit transcript requests to our office. Please contact your student’s counselor with any questions.
- Families with Financial Aid questions should plan to attend (virtually) the Financial Aid Overview scheduled for October 4th (see “Save the Date” below). Please also check out WEBINARS offered by PHEAA on topics like the Financial Aid Timeline and Searching for Scholarship. Please visit our Financial Aid webpage, scroll down to the WEBINAR section, and click on the attached FLYER to register if interested.
Class of 2024:
College Admissions Exams
- During 11th grade, students should plan on taking either the SAT or ACT after they have completed Algebra 2. This will ensure they see the Math content that will be on these exams. The SAT/ACT are separate from the PSAT in October, which is a practice exam for the SAT. These organizations are independent from Central Bucks; registration for the SAT/ACT is directly through the organization’s website (listed below).
- SAT Registration: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/registration
- ACT Registration: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html
PSAT Registration for 10th and 11th grade students:
Registration for the Saturday, October 15th PSAT at CB West High School will be open on the My Payments Plus website from Monday, August 22nd until Monday, September 12th. The registration window is consistent with the timeline set by the College Board so that all who sign up during this period will be guaranteed an exam.
The PSAT is recommended for all college-bound 10th & 11th grade students as practice for the SAT. If you are unfamiliar with the benefits of taking the PSAT, you can explore the information provided on the College Board website: https://parents.collegeboard.org/college-board-programs/psat-nmsqt.
Please visit the Testing page of the Student Services website for exam details and registration instructions!

Parents of Student Drivers
Our goal each day is make sure that all students, faculty, buses, and drivers exit our school campus safely. To ensure that safety, we are requesting that you please reinforce safe driving habits with your student driver. There have been several vehicle accidents that may have been prevented through safer driving practices.
- Drivers should maintain a speed of 15 MPH or less while driving on MacFarlane and in the school zone area.
- Drivers are to stop for pedestrians entering the crossing areas.
- Drivers are not to change lanes on MacFarlane
- Drivers should not be using electronic devices while driving.
- Drivers/Students should not be yelling from one vehicle to the next or getting out of one vehicle to get in another.
- Please try to limit the number of passengers in the car with your student. This will assist in being more attentive while driving.

CB Farmers Market at Barclay moving to Thursdays starting September 22nd.
Any Central Bucks family who may need a little extra food assistance is welcome to join us on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at Barclay Elementary School. Our drive-up food distributions run from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. We generally have free dry goods, fresh produce, milk, eggs, and bread, and often have some frozen meat and poultry. At each event we pass out an average of 12,000-15,000 pounds of food.
We hope to see many families at our food distribution on Thursday September 22nd at 4:30. No advanced sign-up is necessary. We kindly ask that you do not line up before 4:30, and that you do not block our neighbors’ driveways. They are very understanding and supportive of our work, but also need to come and go during our events. If you have any questions about the market, please e-mail jbrereton@cbsd.org or mamcdonald@cbsd.org.
