News & Notes from Ms. Kapuchuck

November 28, 2021

Dear Families,

I hope that all of you enjoyed the Thanksgiving vacation and that this time has been filled with memories and fun! It is hard to believe that there are only 17 school days until the winter break. I can't wait to welcome our students back to school tomorrow!

I also can't wait for them to see our new BOOK MACHINE which is scheduled to arrive tomorrow or Tuesday! Thanks to our community partner, Merck, it will be filled with books our students will be so excited to read.

We have many fun things planned for the month of December! On Friday, December 3rd, our students will participate in a STEM Day event. This is sure to be a morning of hands-on, meaningful learning for our students!

December 17th will be a school-wide Gingerbread Jamboree. We can't wait for students to experience the school transformed for the day as they engage in learning.

If you participated in our Title I Fall Event, "Turkey Talk", please click here to complete a short survey!

Please read below for important information about upcoming events! Have a great week!

MES Holiday Cheer- A few items needed!

I put together 12 days of Holiday Cheer that is sure to brighten the spirits of our staff from December 6th-21st! We are in need of a few items! If you are willing to donate apple cider, whipped cream, caramel squares, or marshmallows, please click here to sign up! Please send these items to school with your student or drop them off in the front office before December 3rd. If your child is a car rider, we can take them in the drop off line! Thank you so much for considering!
Big picture

Spread the Cheer Project!

Let's spread some cheer and kindness to our teachers and staff from now through the month of December! Please take a moment to submit a quick note to any MES staff member to express your appreciation for them. We will print out the messages and add a special treat to them before placing them in mailboxes. MES families are encouraged to submit as many notes as they'd like. It takes each and every staff member giving 100% to keep our school running smoothly each day! I know these words of kindness will mean A LOT!

RCPS COVID-19 & Health Plan Information

You can find the RCPS reopening information by clicking here. You can find the RCPS health plan here.

We continue to follow the same health and safety procedures as last year when it comes to COVID-19. Thank you for understanding that all of our schools in RCPS are following this plan in order to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding as we navigate this "new normal".

As COVID numbers in our area are rising we need to come together as a team to keep our children healthy and safe.

  • They have to take any medications to make them feel better or reduce fever

  • They have had a fever of 100.4 or higher in the last 24 hours

  • They have a bad cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, a runny nose that will soil more than 2 masks per day

  • Someone in your household is sick and being tested for COVID

If you think that you have been exposed to COVID, DO NOT send the child to school without consulting the school first.

If you are unsure of household contact or have any questions as to whether or not your child should attend school, please call the office at 540-289-3004 and ask to speak with the school nurse.

Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students and staff safe and healthy!

Breakfast and Lunch is FREE for all students! Menus are below! December Menus will be posted on our website as soon as they are available.

Transportation Changes- IMPORTANT!

Any same-day transportation changes during the school year must occur before 1:30pm. Please make sure these are taken care of through the office, rather than contacting the teacher, so that we can ensure your child gets home safely! Often, teachers do not have time to check messages and email during the day, so it is important that these changes are communicated to the office. The office will take care of making sure teachers know of the transportation changes.

If you need to contact the office regarding your child's attendance, please call the school at 540-289-3004 or email the school at before 8:30 am. Please include the following information in your email:

1. Student Name

2. Teacher Name

3. Reason for Absence

4. The name of the person submitting the email

You can also use this email address to send Dr. notes!
