Sprague School
A Message from the Principal
And to our young Wildcats, thank you for all you do for your Sprague Family! I was impressed by how everyone showed the Wildcat Way this year. You are sweet, kind, hard-working children. I am daily impressed by your empathy, kindness, flexibility, and love of learning. I am excited to see you grow and the tremendous impact you will make in the world. Enjoy your summer! Read, play, take walks in nature, learn new skills, and love one another. We will see you in the fall.
To our families who are moving on to Half Day, or are going on to new cities, states, and countries. Never forget, once a Wildcat is always a Wildcat! You always have a home in Sprague!
With Appreciation,
Ann Hofmeier
Inventors and Innovators
Over the past several months, second-graders in Mrs. Rachel Chiesa's and Mrs. Sue Vani's classes at Sprague have embarked on an adventure, exploring the world of inventors and innovators. Their hard work, creativity, and determination culminated in the Invention Convention event, where their ideas took center stage.
The students began their journey by observing their surroundings and engaging in conversations with friends and family about their ideas. They then narrowed down their focus to one particular problem that resonated with them. Once the problem was identified, these young inventors took on the role of visionaries, sketching and designing prototypes for their inventions. The classrooms transformed into vibrant idea incubators as students shared their concepts with their classmates and families, just like the participants of the renowned "Shark Tank" television show. For more about the project, please visit the Sprague website.

Researching Animals
First graders worked tirelessly recently on an animal research project. Students chose an animal to research and write an informational book about. They also created a diorama, a three-dimensional model of their animal in its natural habitat.
Teacher Eleanor Kahn assigned students this project to enhance their understanding of a particular animal. Students used shoeboxes to create their animal’s habitat, provided details in a book about the animal and its habitat, and created posters to promote their diorama. Please visit the Sprague website for more on the project.

Author Visit
Sprague welcomed author and illustrator Troy Cummings to their school last week. Mr. Cummings has written 80 books. He shared his thoughts about writing and illustrating with the students. For pictures, please visit the school's Google Doc folder.

June Recognitions
Gay and Lesbian Pride Month: June 11 has been proclaimed as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. In the spirit of honoring equality and freedom, President Bill Clinton said, "I encourage all Americans to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that celebrate our diversity." Daniel Wright's Free to Be Club will participate in the Buffalo Grove Pride Parade on Sunday, June 4.
Juneteenth: Juneteenth honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The name “Juneteenth” is a blend of two words: “June” and “nineteenth.”
