Vision: Academic Excellence and Success
From Mr. Rs Desk
In 2007, Steve Jobs proclaimed that the iPhone was not just a communication tool but "a way of life". Indeed his innovation, the iPhone, revolutionized not just the industry but the world. At the time, Blackberry phones dominated the industry but they lacked innovation and thus they became a thing of the past.
As educators, we have an obligation to innovate and inspire. We cannot remain stagnant. Why?...because of our customers, the students. We have been entrusted to deliver a product and if we cannot deliver, we in turn will be the Blackberry of education. At the end of the day, we need to listen to our customers. We cannot turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to the reality and the now. Do trust that our customers will continue to push our limits and we have no choice but to deliver.
According to Steve Jobs, the "i" word in "iMac" [and therefore "iPod", "iPhone" and "iPad"] stands for INTERNET, INDIVIDUAL, INSTRUCT, INFORM, and INSPIRE. These words are some great words to live by and we must never forget that innovation begins with "i". Pun intended.
Side note: I never wanted to let go of my Blackberry and I kept it until the Fall of 2012. I didn't want to change and besides, I liked it because it served its purpose [to communicate]. Well, no sooner did I realize how much better the iPhone was in regards to its functions and capabilities. I too, wanted to listen music on iTunes, be part of a group text, receive media through text, take quality pictures, have the internet on my phone, and even play Angry Birds. Yes, even though I was apprehensive about the iPhone and its touchscreen keypad, I'm glad I saw the value in it and the importance of being able to adapt to a changing world.
