Message from Mrs. Hawkins
Lincoln Families and Friends,
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year. We are ready and excited to have students return to Lincoln Elementary School. You will receive information regarding classroom placement and the Before School Interview sign-up process this week.
We are starting the school year with almost 600 students at Lincoln School. This increase in student enrollment has created a space issue because of the need for two additional classrooms. Fortunately, we have the portable building available and we have been preparing that space for two sections. Mr. Kruger (5KR) and Ms. Malo (3MA) are excited to welcome their students to these spaces for the 22-23 school year. The rooms are bright and spacious and there are bathroom facilities available for students.
I have been busy hiring staff this summer to fill our open positions. Check out our list of new hires in this newsletter. We are so fortunate to be adding these great members to our team. I’m still trying to fill one special education paraprofessional position if you or someone you know might be interested. We are also looking for substitutes to fill all positions. If you are interested in this type of flexible work, there will be a substitute training for teachers and support staff taking place in September.
We are looking forward to getting to know you and your family this school year. Building a strong partnership with you is essential for our work. It’s going to be a great year!
Mrs. Hawkins, Lincoln Principal

Before School Interviews
Owatonna Public Schools is committed to creating strong student and family relationships and fostering a positive first experience. Students in grades K-5 will start school on Wednesday, August 31st to allow time for before school interviews to take place.
Before school interviews allow teachers to meet individually for 30-40 minutes with students and parents before the start of the school year. All kindergarten students will sign up for an individual 30-minute interview conference time on either Thursday, August 25th or Monday, August 29th. All students, grades 1-5, will sign up for an individual 40-minute interview conference time either on Thursday, August 25th, Monday, August 29th or Tuesday, August 30th.
Students will meet one on one with their teacher for approximately 40 minutes to learn more about them and assess their reading level. Parents will complete paperwork during this time. Following the teacher meeting, students will stop at stations to complete a FASTBridge reading assessment. Students in grades 1-4 will also complete their vision and hearing screening and parents will have an opportunity to pay the yearly PTO dues. The teachers are looking forward to getting to know your child better at the beginning of the year.
Watch for an email to be sent after August 8 with your child’s teacher's name and a link to sign up online for an interview time. If you have questions about signing up for a time, please contact your elementary building office.
