Celebrating VE Day
This week we commemorate 75 years since VE Day. If we had we been in school, there would have been a number of celebrations to mark this historic occasion which would help the children to understand the importance of VE Day.
There are lots of things you can do to celebrate, like Olive and Ben who have coloured and displayed Union Jacks outside their house! Or you might want to have a party in your garden!
Royal British Legion is playing a central role in the delivery of a range of remote activity for the nation, including a two minute silence at 11am.
People are invited to take part in the Silence in whatever way they feel appropriate be that standing at their window, stepping outside their home, whilst remaining distanced from others, or taking the opportunity for a quiet moment of reflection.
There are many parallels between the struggles of the Second World War and what the world is going through today, and looking to the Second World War generation, their resilience and determination, helps inspire today’s generation in these difficult times.
Royal British Legion Schedule
1100-1102 – Two Minute Silence
1115-1200 – The Royal British Legion VE75 Livestream
2000-2110 – VE Day 75: The People’s Celebration, BBC One
2100 – ‘We’ll Meet Again’ Singalong

A poem for Captain Tom Moore By Poppy in Year 6
A poem about Captain Tom Moore.
In the year 2020, we suffered a pandemic corona virus was its name,
it was really horrific.
The NHS were stretched working all the hours God sent,
many people lost their lives so sad but that's how it went.
Out of all the sadness, came shining light
his name was Captain Tom Moore.
Dressed in armour he was sure a king.
He walked lengths of his garden to support the NHS heroes.
The amount he raised kept going up, he kept us on our toes!
A hundred years of age he really was an ambassador.
Completing over 100 lengths of his garden all from his front door!
A war veteran in power years he had already paid his debt to the society
yet he was the grand age of one hundred.
Captain Tom raised more than thirty million pounds.
So selfless and thoughtful.
I have learnt from this noble man the world can be a better place.
The future can be brighter.
School Closure Update
As I am sure you are all aware there has been a significant amount of unhelpful speculation and conjecture in the press about when and how schools will reopen. These kind of articles and comments by some high ranking officials do cause confusion and undue anxiety at a time when we all need to be positive and supportive.
We are so lucky at Cathedral that we do have a wonderfully supportive set of parents and carers who do appreciate that although teachers may not be at school everyday, they are working on a daily basis to support all our children.
The school gets daily updates from the Department for Education and government, and to date has received no information about when schools will open and what will need to be put in place to ensure children's safety. We are expecting that there will be information that will be shared on Sunday when the Prime Minister is due to speak to the nation.
As I am sure you can appreciate whatever decisions are reached by Westminster it will take schools time to plan for any changes that are needed in order to provide for increasing numbers of children.
We will continue to update you as we receive information and ensure that you know how the school is responding to guidance.
Look after yourself and do keep safe

Friendship
In care provision the children thought about the characteristics that are needed to be a good friend, particularly thinking about the current national situation.
They had some great ideas and produced a super pop art poster of their work.
Care Provision

Provision should only be used where it is essential and necessary and we would not expect a child to be sent into school if a key worker is able to work from home.
Meaningful May
Friends Virtual Duck Race
This year the race will be put on slightly differently due to the current situation.
Lily has been working hard on trying to keep events running as much as they can and she has managed to find a website that does Virtual Duck Races!
So this year we will hold a few races with 20 ducks in each race for 2 minutes long.
You can still pick your duck number and even pick as many ducks as you want for each race.
Good luck everyone, and thanks Lily!
