Message from East Hill Principal
Dear East Hill Families,
Wow! What a wonderful week! Our Wildcats are finishing the week strong and are looking forward to a well-deserved February Break! This week we focused on the character strength of LOVE and you could feel it at EH! Everyone enjoyed the stories Vanessa Johnson told us during assemblies. Thank you to our PTA and volunteers for our Valentine's Day celebrations, we had so much fun! We also celebrated 100 Days of School this week! Please see the pictures below.
I hope that our East Hill Wildcats and families have an enjoyable break.

Celebrating Black History Month
Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring Storyteller Vanessa Johnson who visited East Hill this week to help celebrate Black History Month. The students were engaged and enjoyed her performances which included “A Story, A Story!” as well as “Animal Talk”. The stories featured interactive tales using hand movements, instruments, and active story games for our younger students. For our older students, Interactive Stories, Rhythm and Song, and Animals from the African Diaspora Share their Life Lessons and Wisdom! Character Education Issues such as Bullying, Sharing, Tattle-Telling, Joking and Teasing, Honesty and Lying, are addressed through these Delightful Voices of the Animal World!

Health and Wellness Update from PE
If you are looking for a fun adventure during the week of February Break, try the walk and read trail at Camillus Park. Stay on the trail and read the signs that tell a story along the way. See below for more details:

(located near the Splash Pad) Stroll through the nature path and read “The Mitten” set up along the trail. This is provided by Fairmount Community Library and is available in English and Spanish.
Here is a healthy breakfast idea that is fun and easy to make with kids!
Healthy Blueberry “toddler” Muffins
1 ⅓ cups whole wheat flour
¾ cup old fashioned rolled oats
3 Tbsp light brown sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 Tbsp ground flax seeds
1 small apple (grated with peel)
2 medium eggs
¾ cup milk
¼ unsalted butter
1 cup blueberries
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375. Grease or line a muffin tin.
2. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder and flax seeds. Fold in the grated apples.
3. In a small bowl, beat the eggs. Beat in the milk and butter.
4. Pour the egg mixture into the batter and fold together, being careful not to overmix.
5. Add the blueberries to the batter.
6. Using a spoon, carefully distribute the batter into the muffin tin ¾ full. Bake for about 30 minutes or until lightly golden. Let muffins cool for about 10 minutes before removing them from the muffin pan.
**If using a mini muffin pan, adjust time and split the batter for a second round of baking!
