What's Up at Whitney?
1/29/2016 Weekly Update
Welcome Back!
Whitney is pleased to welcome back Mrs. Jamie Yonkoff. She is in her eighth year teaching. She taught Title 1 and 3rd grade in Cleveland for 3 years. She also taught 3rd grade at Drake for 1 year. This is her 3rd year teaching 1st grade at Whitney. She stayed home for the beginning of the school year with her 2 children Kayci (2 years) and Madden (6 months). During her 1st semester absence, her students were fortunate to have the same quality long-term sub throughout. Mrs. DeGioia did a great job and we wish her luck with her teaching career.
Strongsville Education Foundation
Since 1984, the Strongsville Education Foundation (the Foundation) has supported the learning and growth of students in partnership with the Strongsville City School District. This kind of community partnership with the District has become increasingly critical in recent years. Please click here to read more about the Foundation and how you can support their efforts to change the future of our youth and keep our children first.
Strongsville History
Did you know?... John S. Strong, a native New Englander for whom the township of Strongsville was named, arrived in 1816, the year there was no summer due to a volcanic explosion in 1815, of the volcano Tombora.
The city of Strongsville will see some major changes this spring and summer when four school buildings will be razed. In future newsletters, there will be much more information about the New Middle School, and District plans to be sure that the facility, and our students, are ready to start a new chapter of Strongsville history in August of 2016. Until then, I invite you to learn more about the city's past. Click here for more information.
