Starting the Semester Right!

Welcome to the Spring Semester...

Starting a New Year is full of new goals and new beginnings. While school may be a part of your New Year's resolution, you may discover that seeing it through may require more than just setting the intention. In this issue, I will share with you some resources that can support you in making your goal of having a successful semester at Cañada an attainable one. Good luck on your Spring semester!

Textbook Lending Collection for Basic Skills Courses

To alleviate financial obstacles for our ESL, Basic Skills, CWA, and other underserved students, the Library has created a lending program to provide access to textbooks and technology needed to succeed in the course. This program is known as the Textbook Learners Collections (TLC).

The library will purchase 5 copies of a textbook for each section of a course. For example, if there are three sections of ESL 836 then we will purchase 15 copies of their textbook.

Eligibility for checking out these texts or technology for a full semester will depend on the following factors:

  1. Enrollment in Basic Skills, pre-transfer math, ESL or CWA courses
  2. Recommendation by either counselor, retention specialist, or financial coach.
  3. Recommendations by the third week of the semester will have priority.

Please come talk to me, Monica Reynoso, for more information.

Check out the WELLNESS CENTER!

Three different services housed under one facility--the Wellness Center includes the Health Center, the Disability Resource Center (DRC), and the Personal Counseling Center (PCC).

Do you know Daryan Chan?

Daryan is your Basic Skills counselor. Although any counselor in the Counseling Office is here and ready to help you, now you know another counselor you could turn to. If you have any questions concerning your academics, transferring, internships, finding your career pathway, or creating your Student Education Plan... he is the person to ask. Daryan is personable, knowledgeable, and friendly.
