IUSD Virtual Academy @ San Joaquin
Weekly Update for February 15th
School Wide Information
IMPORTANT DATES
Monday, February 15th- NO SCHOOL
IUSD Annual Survey- Please take a few minutes to complete our IUSD Annual Survey. Each year, every school in Irvine Unified administers a climate survey. By making this an annual district-wide effort, we can begin to understand our most compelling needs and measure our growth over time. Obtaining stakeholder feedback regarding school climate and school-community relationship is critical for guiding our continuous improvement efforts. It also allows IUSD to dedicate resources through our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) to ensure that we serve our students, support our staff, and remain connected to our communities. To learn more about the LCAP and the importance of the Annual Survey, please watch this three-minute informative video. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the IUSD Annual Survey! We know that this is a busy time of year and we appreciate you dedicating your time to provide us candid and constructive feedback. The survey will be open from January 25 to February 22. All responses to this survey are anonymous and will be kept strictly confidential.
Online Learning Resources- Below are some resources for parents and students to support success in online learning.
Struggling with Online Learning? 10 Practical Tips
The 3 R’s for Resilient Parenting
Youth Leadership Conference- The Youth Leadership Conference is an annual day of self-discovery, friendship, cultural exchange, leadership building, inspiration, and service. Featuring a series of intensive workshops and a dynamic keynote speaker, this event focuses on educating and empowering future leaders. This FREE event is open to Middle School and High School students. To comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines, the Youth Leadership Conference will be held virtually on February 20, 2021 from 9:00 AM-2:30 PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in 3 virtual workshops that discuss different topics like how to be an LGBTQ+ Ally, How to Build Healthy Relationships, Suicide Prevention and more! We will end with our amazing Keynote Speaker, Dr. Theodore Burnes, who will discuss how youth can be an ally, persevere, and be Unstoppable. To register click HERE
Independent Lessons- Our independent lessons are set aside so that teachers can help support small groups of students with their learning. It is the expectation that students remain in class during the independent lesson when asked by the teacher. Our teachers are noticing that students are leaving the zoom even though they are told to stay. In these instances, our teachers will be marking students as absent to alert our staff and parents that a student left class without permission. Please help us and remind your student to stay in the independent lesson when asked by the teacher as we are working hard to support student learning.
IUSD College and Career Fair- On Monday, February 22, students will be able to access the virtual event to explore college information, learn about community partners, discover more about Career Technical Education, and much more! Live, online sessions will go from 6-8pm. During that time, participants can attend live guest speaker panels, breakout sessions about Career Technical Education, financial aid and college admissions sessions, and chat with college representatives via live zoom links. Click HERE for more information and to register.
Parent Enrichment Workshop- The Irvine Family Resource Center is now offering a variety of Parent Enrichment Workshops as well as a 6 week Parent Support Process Group. Please click this link Irvine Family Resource Center Workshop Flyer for more detailed information.
Operation School Bell: Assistance League® of Irvine is starting our annual Operation School Bell Program, which provides new school clothes, shoes and backpacks to income-qualified IUSD families. OSB will be done in a safe environment following COVID protocols. OSB will begin January 19, 2021 and go through April 3, 2021. To learn more about this program and fill out the new online, fillable OSB Application, click: https://www.assistanceleague.org/irvine/philanthropic-programs-2/operation-school-bell/
COVID Testing- As part of the Irvine Unified School District’s ongoing effort to prevent and limit the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and facilities, the District in partnership with LivingFit Nation Corporate Wellness will offer, at no cost to participants, COVID-19 testing for students and IUSD employees and their dependents.
