Triton Times
Eastlake Middle School 8.20.18
It's hard to believe, but we are one month into the school year. Our students and staff have been amazing. As we quickly approach our first six-week progress report cards, now is a good time to check in with teachers about your student's progress. Here are some highlights and points to consider:
A. Safety! Some of our students have been engaging in risky behavior playing the passout game. We are doing our best to supervise students. Please check in with them about the dangers of this game. In addition, I am sending out a message this week to our students about doing the right thing. I will also include a form that they can fill out anonymously to report issues of bullying. Here is an example of the Bullying Form we call Tritons Helping Tritons.
B. Military Families. We are still looking for families who are interested in creating a support group for our military personnel. Please contact me directly at ricardo.cooke@sweetwaterschools.org. We met with several parents and are hoping to have our first meeting by the end of the month.
C. Parent Handbook. In case you have not seen this handbook, I am reminding you that it is on our website. Or you can click on this LINK. We should have the Spanish version up shortly. Students will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of the expectations this week.

D. Books and Backpacks. I have been asked if each class has a class set of books as to avoid students having to carry books to classes. Unfortunately, not all classes have a class set. I will remind teachers to please alert students when they need the books. We will explore other options as well.
E. Traffic. I will once again reach out to the City for support as well as our representatives.
F. PTSO! Our parent organization is looking for amazing parent leaders. We can use your help. Please nominate yourself or other great parents. Please visit the PTSO website.

A Message from our Assistant Principals!
Dr. Shannon Chamberlin and Mendel Nafarrete
Please be aware that several students were found participating in a game called Passout where they hyperventilate for 30 seconds and then hold their breath in attempt to faint. It's a dangerous game that can cause serious damage to the students. We will be discussing this game with the students. Please consider how you might broach this topic with your student.
