Omegaman is Going to Visit Hoover on October 4
Students are encouraged to participate in our School Spirit Day on October 4 by wearing a Superhero T-Shirt or by participating in our previously scheduled "Crazy Hair Day." Students could even do something interesting with their hair, and wear a Superhero shirt.

New Progress Reports are Coming to Neshaminy
Similar to the previous report card, the new progress report is a standards-based report. This type of progress report lists the most important standards students should learn in each subject at their particular grade level. Instead of traditional letter grades, students receive a mark of I-E that indicates how well they have mastered the required standards. The marks will show their level of achievement with the Pennsylvania Core State Standards. Students will get separate marks for characteristics of a successful learner. Standards-based grading focuses on the student’s achievement rather than how quickly they learned or how many times it took them to master the standards. A student will receive a letter "E" if the student Exceeds the Standard. A student will receive a letter "M" if the student Meets the Standard. A student will receive a letter "A" if the student is Approaching Mastery of the Standard. A student will receive a letter "I" if improvement is needed in a specific area. A student will receive a "NA" if the standard was not assessed during the marking period.
It is important to remember that students will be evaluated on the end of the year expectation for each standard. The vast majority of our students will not demonstrate mastery of the standards at the end of the first or even the second marking period. Most of our students will be "approaching" mastery of the standards during the first and second marking periods.
If you have any questions about our new Progress Reports, please contact your child's teacher, or attend the PTO meeting that is scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm on October 20, 2017 in the Library.

Students Participate in Regularly Scheduled Drills in Order to Prepare for a Real Emergency
During the week of October 16, we have scheduled an Evacuation Drill. We will only implement this drill if the weather cooperates. During an Evacuation Drill, teachers and students walk from Hoover to the Tennis Courts at the Middletown Trace Apartment Complex. In the event of an actual emergency that would necessitate an evacuation, the district would send buses to pick up our students and staff at the Tennis Courts. We would then be transported to another school in our district and parents would then be contacted regarding where they should go to pick up their students at dismissal.
Our teachers also routinely remind students about the importance of not getting into a car with a stranger when walking home from school or the bus stop. Due to a series of recent events in the Philadelphia area and suburbs, I recommend that you also remind your child how to respond if a stranger attempts to invite your child into his or her vehicle.
Please Help Us to Keep All of Our Students Safe!
What is the Dress Code at Hoover?
STUDENT DRESS CODE
Students should wear clothing that contributes to the creation of a “Safe, Joyful, and Challenging Learning Environment.” Clothes that might distract other students, or disrupt the learning environment, are not permitted to be worn at school. Examples of clothing articles that are not permitted at school include: short shorts, cut off shirts, halter tops, tube tops, undershirts, see through clothing, and shirts with inappropriate language or violent images.
Policy 508- Student Dress Code:
I. STATEMENT OF POLICY
School attire must meet reasonable standard of cleanliness, not endanger student or public health, not be disruptive to the education process and meet reasonable standards of appropriateness, Students may be required to wear certain types of clothing while participating in physical education classes, shops, extra-curricular activities, or other situations where special attire may be required to insure the health or safety of the student.
II. EXAMPLES OF INAPPROPRIATE DRESS
A. Hats without purpose worn in the building.
B. Bare or stocking feet.
C. Apparel with offensive words or pictures.
D. Heavy clothing normally worn only outdoors.
E. Any apparel that overexposes the body.
Please ensure that your child wears sneakers on days that he or she is scheduled to participate in a Physical Education class. Since your child plays on the playground every day, flip flops should not be worn to school. We want to ensure that everyone is safe while playing kick ball, playing on the swings, jumping rope, and running on the soccer field.
What Should Students Bring to School?
Cell phones should not be turned on in school. Many Bus Drivers allow students to play games quietly on cell phones, but if these devices cause a disruption, Bus Drivers may ask students to put their cell phones away. Students should not take photos or videos of other students on the Bus or at school. Photos or videos should not be uploaded to Social Media Accounts (FaceBook, Twitter, etc.) without parental permission.
