Dear IACS Community,

This week leading up to December vacation showcased IACS creativity at its finest! Our high school spirit week had some incredible categories that I don't remember ever being a part of past spirit weeks. On Monday we had "Soccer Mom and BBQ Dad" day which allowed to student to poke fun at adult sense of fashion. On Tuesday, "Anything but a backpack" was the theme; students carried around their school supplies in everything from a picnic cooler, to a traffic cone, to guitar cases, to a shopping cart from a nearby department store. But the what took the prize was the creative use of a snow sled used to tow supplies- not to mention friends- from class to class.

The final category of "firsts" was "Swinter" attire on Thursday. As you might infer, this category had students and staff combining winter and summer attire, an idea inspired by Phineas and Ferb. Mr. Craig did a wonderful job not only nailing his Swinter look, but also incorporating his passion for Purple Thursdays.

And lest you think all of the creativity was on display at the high school, our 7th and 8th grade advisories continued their annual tradition of building the most innovative Gingerbread Houses this week. And while you should really check out ALL of the entries in the December Advisory Challenge (CLICK HERE to see them all), here are a couple of entries that impressed the judges:

I hope everyone in the IACS community has a safe and restful vacation spent with friends and family. Looking forward to reconnecting in 2023!

End of Year Giving

While we surpassed our goal for the Giving Tuesday kickoff to our end of the year Giving Campaign, we still have a ways to go to reach our goal of $50,000 for this calendar year. If you are in a position to help, please consider a donation to allow us to continue to provide the excellent project based, student centered education that drew you to IACS. Endersession, June 12-16th

When students and faculty are asked about their favorite aspects of our school, one of the most common answers from both groups is “Endersession”. Every year our faculty designs week-long courses that bring adults and students together to learn in unique ways. We feel that Endersession is one of our programs that acknowledges and fosters educational methods that reach beyond the classroom walls, encouraging students to develop varied interests and insights that allow them to embrace and reflect upon the world around them.

As you can read from the descriptions in this packet, there is a wide range of course offerings. Our staff has proposed courses that hopefully meet our goal of creating a wide range of options for all students and all budgets. The efforts by staff to make these courses possible are tremendous. We hope students and families are as excited by the options as we are!

Keep an eye out for an email from Mr. Pereyra with this year’s Endersession Packet!

Harvest of the Month

On December 19th the Farm to School interns created the first Sample from the Harvest of the Month protocol. This program is throughout America to help educate and promote fresh local produce in schools. Interns prepared 15 lbs. of carrots from local Farmer Daves and used honey from Ms.Cynar’s mom to turn out the dish of the month. Students and staff enjoyed the honey-glazed carrots. We look forward to preparing new crops every month. Get excited about an apple dish for January.
