Cougar Connect Community Edition

May 8 - May 19

Principal Arellano's Post

Greetings Cougar Families!

We have officially completed our first week of May. As we are in the final week of this school year, I am reflecting on all of the hard work our students and staff have put in this year. We have accomplished so many great things and I am so proud of our community. Thank you for your continued partnership in your student's education. We truly have the BEST community and I am incredibly lucky to be part of it! We have lots of exciting events in the upcoming weeks. Please be sure to be on the lookout for communication regarding our special events.

Please be sure to look in your student's backpack daily and check your Remind app for communication from the school and your student's teacher. Students have nightly homework. Please support them in completing homework and reading nightly.

We are celebrating Teacher Appreciation week beginning May 8th and celebrating throughout the week. Please help us celebrate our amazing staff. If you would like to contribute, please reference the Remind message sent out on behalf of our AMAZING PTO.

Please ensure your student's lunch balances are cleared by the 19th of May. If you need assistance with clearing lunch balances, please contact our front office.

Habits of Success Focus: Curiosity

ROARS Focus: Attitude

The skill of Curiosity helps our students in the following ways:

  • Learn about topics that they are interested to help make connections between their learning and the world around them.

  • Make connections with other students who have similar interests.

  • Students openly seek out listening to others with different opinions and perspectives. Students genuinely want to listen to others' discussions, openly listening for a difference of perspective.

Circle Prompts:

  • Why is it important to connect with others who have similar interests?
  • Why is it important to connect with others who have different interests than our own?
  • In what ways can we find new activities or interests?
  • Why should we try out new things, like games, sports, books, and hobbies?
  • What is something new that you have tried out in the past month?
  • In what ways can you connect with new friends?
  • Why is it important to listen to others when collaborating in class?
  • Why is it important to listen to others who have different ideas than our own?
  • In what ways can we remain respectful when a peer has a different idea than our own?

All items must be donated by Friday, May 5 so that we can get the giveaway organized for the staff next week. ALSO, don't forget to send your favorite staff member a special, handwritten note of appreciation! Each "Teacher-gram" is $1 and will be attached to a card and hand delivered to your addressee. Money and forms can be turned into the Front Office, or sent in with your students! Cougar Alert

  • All visitors must check-in at the front office prior to entering the school building with a picture ID.

  • During arrival and dismissal, please maintain the speed limit, stop for students and adults in the crosswalk, and avoid blocking the street. We are partnering with our SROs to ensure speed limits and traffic laws are followed for the safety of our students and community members.

  • Please do not drop students off prior to 8:00 a.m. as we do not have duty staff available for supervision.

  • All afterschool clubs will end at 4:15. Please be sure to have your student picked up on time. Please be sure to check your Remind app for cancelations or changes to schedules.
  • Please be sure to read through the important documents below that are shared with our families in our annual September Communication to famlies.

Staff Recognition

Please send Mrs. Arellano an email if you would like to recognize one of our staff members for the amazing work they do each and every day with students. Staff recognitions will be submitted to our district Good Newsletter and be featured on our Cougar Connect Community Edition. Mrs. Arellano can be reached at arellanos@wsd3.org.

Danielle Kuennen - King Elementary

Danielle is an important piece of the King Puzzle. Her positive attitude and commitment to doing what's right for kids makes her a role model for our entire staff. Danielle is flexible, kind, and always willing to "lean in" where she is needed. Mostly, we can't imagine a day without her humor getting us through the tough spots.

Jackie Krablean - King Elementary

Jackie is the Science/PBL teacher at King and has changed the way we deliver instruction to our students. Her lessons are hands on, inquiry based, and always student centered. Jackie's smile brightens our day and students are always so excited when they know it's a Krablean Day.

DurenGoodWinner!

April's Duren Good Winner is Kameron Hambly! Ms. Hambly is a first-grade teacher at King Elementary.

Here is what her nominator wrote: "By being very kind and extremely patient with her students. She is also rocking her first year! "
