Life
The American Alligator is the largest reptile in N. America, and unlike the crocodile, the alligator has a broader head, and darker scales. Also, they don't have vocal cords, but can in fact the males can bellow loudly to attract a mate or ward off competitors. Alligators usually live for about 35-50 years int he wild, and 60-80 in captivity.
Mateing
Mateing season is from about mid - April, to May, and the mother does all of the work caring for the eggs.(they lay about 20-50 eggs and they take about 60-65 days to hatch)
Location/Habitats
Their primarily located in the south of the U.S.A, their are about 5 mil in America(1.5 are located in Florida), and lately they have been migrating north.
Interesting Facts
In 1984, Florida made the American Alligator their state reptile.
