West Middleton Update
~Building a Compassionate, Collaborative Community For All~
A few quick updates from Mrs. Krych for December 2018
I hope you're all staying warm and well this December. Time is flying, as usual, and our annual Winter Tea is this Friday!! If you've never been before, it truly is a magical event. Our music teachers, Emily Spahn and Brooke Soltis, have been working really hard to teach and practice the beautiful music with our students. This is our BIG musical concert for the year so you don't want to miss it. We will also have a art show during Winter Tea so make sure you take the time to check our Wolverines' beautiful wintry art that Mrs. Hyland has been working on with our students. If this doesn't get you in the holiday spirit, nothing will.
Please continue to send your child/ren with warm clothes, snowpants, boots, hats and gloves. It's cold out there and it's important that they're properly dressed. If your child/ren is in need of any of these items, please contact our social worker, Emily Stockbridge, at estockbridge@mcpasd.k12.wi.us.
Our first day of winter break is Monday, December 24th. We return to school on Wednesday, January 2nd. I hope you all enjoy the time with your families. I'm wishing you the happiest of holidays and a wonderful new year!
With Gratitude,
Mrs. Krych

Farm to School
On Friday, November 30th, we tried raw purple turnips as part of our third Farm to School Taste Test. Elderberry Hill Farm in Blue Mounds provided the turnips. Purple turnips are part of the mustard family, have a somewhat sweet and peppery flavor, and are packed with vitamins. They and can be eaten raw, pickled, roasted and stewed, and their green tops can be boiled and eaten, too. Ask your student how they liked purple turnips! Our next Taste Test will take place on Friday, January 18th.
Updates from the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Team
Our PBIS focus for the month of November was being respectful on the bus! Bus drivers handed out red Pride Paws to students who were doing an exceptional job of following the Wolverine Way of being respectful, responsible, safe and a learner. The goal was to fill the picture of the bus windows with red Pride Paws. After students earned 1000 red Pride Paws as a Wolverine community, they earned a song in the morning. Once 2000 red Pride Paws were earned together, they earned free seating during lunch. When students hit the top goal of 3000 red Pride Paws, they earned free seating and music during lunch! The students earned all three goals and had a great time enjoying their hard work together as a Wolverine family!
At the assembly, we also recognized the students of the month. The following students were recognized for doing an exceptional job of following the Wolverine Way:
- Kindergarten - Allison Mabel Hernandez Garcia
- 1st Grade - Harvey Antony
- 2nd Grade - Sky Carter
- 3rd Grade - Nicole Bukhman
- 4th Grade - Hunter St. Clair
For the month of December, we are focusing on Being Responsible in the Cafeteria. Teachers are handing out red Pride Paws in the cafeteria when they notice students who are being respectful, responsible, safe, or a learner. The first goal they are trying to earn as a grade level is to earn free seating Friday as a grade! Ask your child if they earned it this Friday!
Hour of Code
Dear Families,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
That’s why our entire school joined in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week in December. More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that West Middleton is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills.
Find West Middleton Elementary on the Hour of Code Map.
Visit our District website for coding games that your student did during Hour of Code.
