You may have heard about the solar eclipse that will occur on April 8, 2024, visible across North America. While we are not in the path of totality, we'll have about 88% coverage in our area, with eclipse phenomena from approximately 1-3pm and peaking just before 2pm. Science teachers and other staff members in each of our buildings are organizing lessons and activities around the event and all students will receive specialized solar filter eclipse glasses and will have the opportunity to view the eclipse. Specific information about each building's activities will be sent via your child's school newsletters.

Character Focus
Hereโs a quick recap of what we talked about this week in our CharacterStrong sessions - some good stuff right here!
- 6th Grade focused on Understanding Emotions. This was the 1st of 2 sessions focusing on understanding and learning ways to regulate our emotions. In this session, we talked about the value of regulating and calming our bodies and learned some techniques focusing on breathing.
- 7th Grade discussed Building Awareness. This was the 1st of 4 sessions on how we can effectively engage in empathy in ways that result in helping others in need rather than just feeling bad for them. To start this section off we focused on noticing as much as we can about others as a way to get us started on improving our empathy and perspective-taking skills.
- 8th Grade learned about Clear and Positive Communication. Students identified the audience and purpose when writing an email and learned how to write an appropriate email based on the intended audience.
Pirates ROCK Character Trait: PERSEVERANCE
Pirates R.O.C.K. (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.
April's #PiratesROCK trait is PERSEVERANCE: giving your best effort regardless of obstacles & rejection
