From Mrs. Lewis...
- SUPERVISION - Safety is our number one priority. We are still observing and handling discipline that occurs in bathrooms. Groups of students should not be sent to the bathroom. AN ADULT MUST BE WITH STUDENTS AT THE BATHROOMS MONITORING, unless it is a student or two. Even in this case, staff should be strategic about who they send to the restroom.
- LOCKERS - How are you supervising your students at their lockers in the afternoon? Whole classes should not be released at one time and students should not be allowed to go to the restroom without an adult supervising.
- BAG / DRESS CODE Sweeps - Please know admin will be conducting random sweeps for the remainder of the year. Staff members should remain vigilant in between times and correct issues.
- Donuts for Dads will take place on Tuesday. Please allow students whose Dad attend to come to the media center at 8am.
- CHAPERONES - Valentine's Dance - February 13th, 4-6pm (2 reps per grade level, 2 electives, and 2 support staff needed for chaperones. Grade level chairs, please submit names to Mrs. Lewis by Friday 2/7/20) Students with ISS / OSS from Feb.3 - 13 will not be allowed to attend. Please announce to students. There will be a crowning of a queen and king at the dance. More details to come.
- Soccer Meeting - Mr. Hersey will meet with all students interested in soccer on Monday, Feb. 3rd at 8:25.
- AWARDS -Please see Mrs. Spencer's email concerning Awards procedures. Please arrive on time to the program so that it can begin and end on time. Remind students of behavior expectations.
- Smart Lunch cancelled this week (2/6) due to Awards and 8th Grade Assembly on Thursday.
- If you are interested in the BIGGEST LOSER at SHMS see Mrs. Mears. Initial weigh in will be on Monday, February 3 and there is a $5.00 fee. Final weigh in will be April 30. Weigh loss will be based on percentage. Winner gets the $$.
- Mrs. Mears is in need of deoderant, wash cloths and soap. Donations would be greatly appreciated. (Thanks)
- Tuesday Clubs 2:40pm 2nd and 4th Tuesday beginning Feb. 11? Students will take online survey to sign up for clubs. Club advisors should begin planning out their club sessions and activities.
- All staff members should be cognizant of dress code violations. Please review the dress code one pager with your homeroom class. It is an expectation that all staff members enforce the dress code. Dress Code Sweeps will be conducted periodically. STAFF MEMBERS SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW DRESS CODE - Leggings should follow the same rule as students.
- Clothing Closet - The Spring Hill Clothing Closet is in need of middle school clothing. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. See Mrs. Fehlman.
- ARE YOU READY? Please be reminded that we will have visitors on campus March 23-24 to observe classrooms using the ELEOT Tool. Feedback will be given to district office and a determination will be made whether our district is accredited or not. - Grade level chairs, please share the district strategic plan (given at SIT) with your grade levels.
- Elective teachers are responsible for students that do not show up to your SMART lunch. If your student does not show up, please ensure that you locate the student. Students do not have a choice in whether they attend SMART LUNCH or not.
- The Battle of the Books team will engage in another Skype battle on February 18th, 10:45-11:30.
- LOANER CHROMEBOOKS -Please be aware that there are a limited number of loaner chromebooks available and first priority goes to students who have broken ones that are out for repair. If a student forgets theirs, the punishment should be to do paperwork and loss of PBIS stamp for the day. If there is no consequence, they will continue to forget it.

- Repeated bounces - Teams are responsible for initiating a office refferral after a student has three bounces within a reasonable amount of time (check with your administrator in case you have questions). Administrators no longer complete bounce audits and leave multiple bounces up to teams to refer to the office.

- ATTENTION - If you have Chromebooks in your homeroom or on you team that is broken and needs to be fixed, please turn those into the media center IMMEDIATELY to be fixed. We are trying to avoid having an overload in repairs for the summer.
- MAILROOM DISHES / SINK - Please know that at no time should trays and leftover food be left in the mailroom kitchen sink for others to clean up. We don't like critters.
- Mailroom Refrigerators - Mailroom refrigerators will be cleaned out each Friday. Don't forget to get any food/containers out before the end of each week.
- Next week is National School Counselor week! Please give Mrs. Snell and Mrs. Clark extra love this upcoming week.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences Feb 20, Admin will be involved in training from 1-3pm. Any one needing an administrator to participate in conference must schedule after 3:00pm

- NON-NEGOTIABLES - (teach on your feet unless you are conducting small group instruction, cell phones away while students are in your care, while on duty and/or during professional meetings, Praise in public - reprimand in private, SHMS is a no yell zone, students should be supervised at ALL times, the Friday Review and all emails will be read in a timely manner)
From Nurse Mears...
February 7th is National Wear Red Day. This is a day to raise awareness about heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S.
Student and staff activity: It's never too late or too young to learn how healthy habits can protect your heart. What do you do for heart health? Nurse Mears will be passing out paper hearts in February for students and staff to write down ways they are staying healthy. Please post these outside your classroom door to share with others.
Mrs. Harris will be taking photos of activities in the school that promote heart health to share on social media. (Hint: Are you eating your vegetables? Participating in P.E.? )

BUS INFORMATION:
- Scotland County Schools is hosting a bus driver training class March 30th, 31st and April 1st. The class will begin at 8:30 and end by 4:00. Please contact Jennifer Cofell @ 277-4355 or jcofell@scotland.k12.nc.us if you are interested.

Safety
- Please ensure that safety procedures and information are included in all substitute plans.
- Lockdown procedures should be reviewed with students at least once each 9 week period.
- FIre drill Info- Please make sure you review procedures with your students and have a 2nd route in mind in the event you are not able to go out via the route posted on your classroom map. Remember: the teacher should check the hallways before sending students out and know the locations of fire alarm pull stations.
- Please report any safety concerns to Mrs. Tippett or your safety team representative.
- Inforce 911: Safety team members will be training during PLCs on Tuesday, 2/4. This is required for all staff members. You should have received login information this week.

Common Assessment Windows are February 17-19, 2020. Please have your Common Assessment turned in no later than February 10, 2020.
Many teachers have not used NewsELA. Please be reminded, there is a school expectation that all Core Teachers (except Math) incorporate Passages in their instruction. Teachers should be reviewing text structures in this process. NewsELA was purchased to assist with finding passages. Please update your lesson plans in the correct folder. Plans should include 2 HOT questions per learning activity and Extended Passages.
This month the Instructional Foci are Vocabulary and Higher Order Thinking Questions (HOT). Be reminded it is a focus for Walkthroughs along with rigor (alignment, assignments, writing, and questioning) and engagement (movement, summarizer, writing). The teachers chosen for next week are Sagastume, Francis, Best, Smith, Williams.

- Mrs. Janet's husband, Kenny, underwent two surgeries this past week to help alleviate pain in his back. Continue to prayer for peace and comfort.
