A word from Mr Broom

Firstly, a happy new year to everyone. I hope you had a lovely festive period and are looking forward to all that 2020 brings.

The first week in school has been an incredibly positive one. Everyone seems to have settled really well into their learning. I started the week with an assembly all about 'new year, new start' and setting challenges to make us even better. The children have certainly risen to the challenge.

Next week, we have Peter Wilson (STARMAT Trustee) visiting school. It will be Peter's first visit to Sherburn Hungate and I'm sure he will be incredibly impressed! Thursday is also Languages Day. Miss Smith is co-ordinating a series of exciting activities for all classes to explore.

Finally, I've added the Learning Journeys for each class to the bottom of this newsletter. Please take a look at your child's learning journey so that you can see what they will be learning.

Uniform Reminder

Since Christmas we seem to have a small number of children who are attending school with nail varnish applied. This isn't part of our high expectations on uniform and we ask that if your child has nail varnish applied, it is removed before school on Monday morning.

Additionally, the school uniform policy on footwear is black shoes. We have a small number of children who attend in trainers, boots etc. Please ensure your child wears black shoes to school.

Thank you, as always, for your support in this matter.

External Lighting Works

Lighting works to the external path around the early years outdoor provision are due to start on Monday and last for most of the week. As this is the case, we ask that parents make their way through the adjacent 'nursery' gate (just to the right of the usual gate), walking through the early years outdoor area, to the rear of school. We apologise for this necessary inconvenience.

Buddies Spaces Available!

Spaces available at buddies both morning and afternoon sessions. Adhoc sessions available too. Also Buddies is open February half term.

Spring Term Learning Journeys

At Sherburn Hungate Primary School, we plan our learning through what is known as a Learning Journey. This typically starts with a 'big bang' event (something to spark imagination and enthusiasm for the topics covered) and ends with a 'showcase' (a celebration of the children's work to an audience).
