A Brief Biography Of Harry Houdini

Harry Houdini was actually born Erich Weisz on March 24th in 1874 in Budapest, Hungary. Erich was one of seven children that his parents, Cecelia Weisz and Mayer Samuel Weisz, had. As a child he moved with his family to Appleton, Wisconsin and then moved again when he was 13 with his father to New York City, New York. They had found themselves doing odd jobs for people to get by this is where Erich had learned his love for the trapeze arts.

He got his name “ Harry Houdini” from a childhood nickname Ehire and from a French magician named Jean Eugene Robert-Hondini who he later wrote a book about called " Unmasking Robert Houdin"

Harry's longer life

Erich Weisz was considered a magician, others say he was a master illusionist, a escape artist or even a stunt performer. In 1894 he started his career as a professional magician also at this time renaming himself, Harry Houdini. Erich's magic career showed little attention so he turned to becoming an escape artist and he is known to be one of the best still today many people don't know how he did his tricks. In 1893, he married a fellow performer by the name of Wilhelmina Beatrice Rahner who became his life long assistant. The Great Harry Houdini died at the age of 52 from peritonitis, secondary to a ruptured appendix at 1:26 p.m. on October 31, 1926 in Room 401 at Detroit's Grace Hospital.

Harry's Impact on the world today

People still today try and fail to do what Harry Houdini did and try to reenact the amazing tricks and escapes he did he is one of the main reasons magic and being an escape artist is so popular today.
