A Team Working Together...
I hope this email finds you and your families healthy and managing during this unprecedented time in our history. No one would have guessed that we would have all been cooped up in our houses for weeks/months on end trying to navigate a new normal. I ask that you continue to be safe and take all necessary precautions not only for yourself, but all those in our community. We can get through this, but we have to do it together.
As the summer winds down, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the hard work of our teachers working over the summer. While they usually take these two months or so to recharge, they have been actively providing input and working to develop their skills to teach in a virtual setting. Over the last month or so I have had virtual office hours 2 times per week that staff could voluntarily come into to ask questions, make suggestions, and talk about what our fall learning will look like. These engaging conversations have changed over time due to the direction that we as an entire PWCS team decided was best for the safety of all stakeholders in these challenging times. Through all this, we continue to work together to do all we can to help our students succeed. I can't say it will be easy, but I can say that you have a strong team at Haymarket ES working for the sake of your children.
There are more questions to answer and there will be more information to deliver in the coming weeks. Most information will come straight from PWCS, but please let me know if you have particular questions about Haymarket and your student. As I said, our staff has been working very hard all summer long to do all we can to deliver a high quality educational experience, and I believe we will.

Return to Learning Plan
As you probably saw from the PWCS Return to Learn Plan, this fall will be a combination of synchronous (live teaching) and asynchronous (recorded lessons to watch). Here are some of other highlights from the RTL Plan (click HERE to access the FAQs):
- All students will receive live instruction in core content classes and participate in live and recorded encore daily.
- Students participating remotely will join via Zoom with schedules set by the school and teacher class schedules.
- Students will receive live instruction of at least 60 minutes Pre-Kindergarten, 90 minutes Kindergarten – Grade 2, and 120 minutes Grades 3–5, plus additional teacher interactions as needed including Monday virtual-support days.
- Students in-person needing to join virtual teachers/classes will have access to Zoom facilitated by an in-person teacher.
- Language arts and math classes (which include integrated social studies and science) will be accompanied by 10-25 minutes of assigned work in Canvas, dependent upon grade level.
Students receiving special education services will be contacted in the near future to set up an IEP meeting to discuss services using the outline above.
Teacher Assignments and Virtual Open House
Canvas and ParentVUE
Kindergarten Screening
All screenings will be done virtually as I have not been authorized to let any students in the building.
Supply Lists
Device/Materials Pick Up
Our teachers have been working hard to come up with Instructional Bags for all students based on the content they are teaching in September and October. Items in these bags may include student planners (still a good organization tool to use even when at home), folders, manipulatives, resources, textbooks, consumable books, and more. These bags and laptops will be available for pick up in late August. More details will come as to when each grade level is slated to pick up their materials. Laptop distribution will be done using the PWCS survey results (those who noted they will be using a school-issued device).
