PROPOSED SECONDARY LIBRARY MEDIA STANDARDS OPEN FOR PUBLIC COMMENT
Washington High Eagles Teach 3rd Graders About Personal Safety
James Madison Elementary's 3rd grade class with Mrs. Kozak accepted Washington High's invitation to visit the kids. The Eagles discussed the three areas of safety and communication with the class using participatory activities. They handed out copies of their activity book to each student, which featured an original mascot, "Sammy the Safety Squirrel." The Eagles worked long and hard to bring the book and the presentation to fruition and to help improve their community in a unique way.
Shadow Valley 4th: Election Platforms
To culminate their study of Utah’s history, culture, and government, Shadow Valley’s fourth-grade teachers teamed up with District Teacher Librarians for a unit on the rights and responsibilities of citizens in Utah. Students discussed the importance of voting and worked in groups to create fictional candidates for an election for county commissioner. Students researched issues, created a platform with solutions to problems facing our county, generated pamphlets, stickers, and posters, held a town meeting, and VOTED!
The results are in! Bill Bow Active, Bryce D. Man and Sal A. Mander are Shadow Valley’s new “county commissioners.” Congratulations to all the students for their diligent work to promote their candidates and tackle tough issues facing our county.
