Health Information:
It’s that time of year again, as per NJ state law- the mandated yearly health screenings are underway! I have joined the fight to save sight for our students by implementing instrument-based vision screenings along with visual acuity-based screenings with an eye chart. The photo screening device (which is like a special camera) can objectively test your child’s eyes for 6 potential visual conditions. It also works with their eyeglasses on and tells if the prescription is correct. It is estimated that 1 in 4 school-aged children has an undiagnosed vision condition that can negatively impact their ability to learn. Children generally don’t complain about their vision and many problems are not obvious. Unfortunately, many eye problems worsen over time. Early detection and treatment is essential to avoid permanent visual impairments. Many conditions are usually treated with eyeglasses. If you have received a vision referral for your child from their health screening, a comprehensive eye exam with an eye care professional is recommended for a formal diagnosis. Please return the referrals to me as soon as possible and together we can win the fight to save sight for our children. If you do not have insurance and/or need assistance with your vision referral, please contact the nurse.
