On your mark, get set, READ!
This year, in addition to the pizza party at the finish line, all students who read at least 5 books will earn two free tickets to a Fisher Cats baseball game. This program is sponsored by the Fisher Cats to promote youth literacy.
Looking for something to read for yourself? Check out the New York Times 10 Best Books of 2018. We have Educated, a memoir by Tara Westover, in the library for your borrowing pleasure, and I am sure your local libraries will have the others.
Prefer middle grade novels? Check out this 20 Most Buzzed-About Middle Grade Book of 2018 list by Brightly. (We have a few and a several more are on their way.)
YA more your speed? Brightly has a 20 of the Most Exciting YA Books of 2018 list.
Books. Mmmmm...Tasty
42 books were checked out on Friday by Mrs. Dobe's readers- our first group of diners! The most popular genres were novels in verse (surprise!) and adventure (not a surprise). The least popular item on the menu was realistic fiction. Something to chew on!
8th grade teachers: I am in the process of developing a speed dating event for the month of February to celebrate Book Lovers Month. Be on the look out for more information as it becomes available.
Breaking out of our 1/17 Staff Meeting
After our staff meeting, I am hoping to find a few willing victims to collaborate with to launch a Breakout activity with their class(es).

TECH AND ANXIETY
https://www.techlearning.com/news/tech-and-anxiety
Here is my personal favorite tool suggested to help combat anxiety: "EREADERS- Having an ereader on their device allows anyone who's feeling anxious to escape into a book to calm and collect themselves before or after a stressful event."
A good old fashion book can do the same, and we have plenty of those here in the LMC.
10 Sites for Checking Plagiarism
Tech & Learning Magazine featured these 10 sites for checking plagiarism, but I would be happy to come into the classrooms and help facilitate a lesson on paraphrasing, summarizing, and the ethical use of information. For a hard copy of this magazine, stop into the library.
