Timothy Ball News February 17 - 21
Welcoming all. Believing in all. Growth for all.
A Note from Mr. Ciochina
Happy Valentine's Day! We had an exciting week at Timothy Ball with our Pasta for Pennies spirit week fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! I want to thank everyone who helped contribute to the fundraiser -- our students did an amazing job and learned about the importance of helping others in the process.
Also, our first graders did a fantastic job with their music program this week. Check out the pictures below!
Today marks the midway point of the third grading period. It is a good time to check on your child's progress. You can view a screencast at this link about how to navigate RDS and Buzz. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please do not hesitate to reach our to his or her teacher or to me.
Reminders -- Monday, February 17, is Presidents' Day and there will be no school that day. I hope you all enjoy the three day weekend.
Thank you for being a fantastic partner in education. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Social Emotional News from Mrs. Holok
Teaching Kindness Reduces Bullying
Instead of teaching children what NOT to do, teaching them what they CAN do is important to create change. Teaching and encouraging kindness is related to many of the following positive outcomes:
· Happy children! There is a natural good feeling that results when we do an act of kindness, even if it’s small. Happy and compassionate children do not have a need to bully others.
· Higher self-esteem. The “helper’s high” that comes from endorphins in our brains when we do something kind increases our sense of belonging. Children will feel like they can have a true impact on their environment.
· More friends. Feeling like they are accepted and liked by peers is usually very important to children of all ages. Kindness increases our connections with other people on a deeper level.
· Improved academic success. The feel good effects of being kind help increase children’s concentration and memory, which greatly impacts learning.
· Better mental health. Acts of kindness increase serotonin levels, the natural brain chemical that improves mood.
Have a consistently unhappy child?
Encourage them to look outside themselves and be kind to someonePositive Behavior Note from Mrs. Derwinski

Stomp Out Bullying Tip
Don't bully back. Fighting back satisfies the bully and will likely get you into trouble.
