“An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it’s going to launch you into something great.”
We are all going to be “pulled back” and experience tough times… you will bounce back and move forward if you have a positive outlook.

Social Work Appreciation Month
March is Social Work Appreciation Month and the month of SPRING. If you’ve been supported by a social worker and feel grateful for their help then be sure to let them know how important they are to you! I can guarantee that even social workers need to be told how much they are appreciated. And, you’ll feel good about making someone else feel good! It’s win-win!

Art Department Field Trip
Selected art students got to go on a great field trip in February to see work they did on exhibit at the Hancock International Airport, and then to the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse. Twenty-two students and their art teachers, Jesse Bender and Judy Cogan, had a good time viewing and discussing art. They got to see a show at the Everson called, “Hoop Dreams: Basketball in Art” that even included a court where the kids could play basketball! For most of these kids, it was their first visit to an art museum. A good time was had by all.
Field trip Part 2 happened on March 1, when the same group of students traveled to OCC to see the Scholastic Art Awards show. We’re doing everything we can to expose these kids to museums, galleries, and artwork out in the real world. It’s wonderful to listen in on their conversations, filled with art vocabulary and a deep understanding of the creative process.
The Sculpture and Ceramics class is teaming up with the Cortland Reuse Center to take things out of the never-ending stream of materials headed for the landfill. John Zelson, the mastermind mad scientist genius behind the Reuse Center, collected old small appliances and other odd and interesting items for us to use as raw materials for sculpture building. The students in this class are fired up to combine and transform all this stuff into sculpture that fits into one of these categories:
Animal-(ish)
Human-(oid)
Something inspired by nature
Imaginary creatures
Mechanics/machines
Stay tuned for pictures of these creations in next month’s newsletter!
