Principal's Corner
This coming Friday (October 4th) at 5:30, our link to register for Parent-Teacher Conferences for Fall 2019 will go live. We have a few more slots than we did last year, but I can almost guarantee that the most desired spots (evenings or early morning) will go quickly across all grade levels. We have organized the sign-up forms by grade level, so there will be three separate links (one per grade). Each document is organized by teaching team, so the best way to be ready for this Friday is to write down the last name of your child's math, humanities, and science teacher. Those names are who you will look for when signing up. One other change for this year is that we would like the parents to complete the first name and last name fields with their own name(s) and then we have created another field where the full name of your student can be entered. The directions for signing up will go out not as part of the update, but as a direct email with links. We look forward to seeing you all here soon!
Make it a great week!

Speak Up 4 Student Success: HB 3427 - Student Success Act Community Conversations
The Oregon Legislature passed and the Governor signed the $2 billion Student Success Act (HB 3427) in Spring 2019. This is an historic and much needed investment in K-12 schools. The Beaverton School District could be able to access an estimated $34 million per year through a state application process.
School districts are required to apply for funds, and must engage their community in a needs assessment process prior to the application for funds. All Beaverton schools will be engaging their communities in these conversations during September and October.
Please join us to talk about what student success looks like in our school and the Beaverton School District? What is going well in our schools? What areas/services/programs could we improve? Your voice matters! We welcome your perspective and opinion.
Meadow Park Speak Up 4 Student Success Community Conversations offered in English & Spanish: Wednesday, October 9th at 6pm in the Meadow Park library.

Choice Reading for ALL Meadow Park Students
Over the past few years, the Beaverton School District's Humanities/English Language Arts curriculum was updated to reflect current best practices to help our students improve their reading skills. All Beaverton students have access to a classroom library of several hundred books, whether they are in elementary, middle, OR high school.
Based on research, choice in reading is key to our students developing better reading habits and skills. By increasing reading volume through high interest book choices, the benefits to students include:
● increased stamina needed for high school and college classes
● improved fluency
● academic confidence
● strengthened writing skills
● increased vocabulary
● stress relief
Students have access to an entire classroom library each and every day. The libraries include a wide variety of books carefully selected by teachers and district librarians, some that our teachers have read and some that they have not. The students will self-select their choice reading books during the school year. We encourage you to talk to your child about their choices and support them in creating an environment where they can engage in choice reading EACH night at home.
Our classrooms greatly benefits from book donations. If you have any young adult books that are no longer needed or in use at your home, please send them into your child's Humanities classroom. In addition, we appreciate your help in encouraging your son or daughter to return their classroom library books so other students are able to enjoy them, as well!
If you have any questions about your child’s book selections this year, please do not hesitate to contact your son or daughter's Humanities teacher. As always, thank you for your support.
