PLC - Collaborative Norms
Presume Positive Intent
Assuming that others' intentions are positive promotes and facilitates meaningful dialogue and discussion, and prevents unintentional put-downs. Using positive intentions in speech is one manifestation of this norm.
Put Ideas on the Table
Ideas are the heart of meaningful dialogue and discussion. Label the intention of your comments. For example: "Here is one idea..." or "One thought I have is ..." or "Here is a possible approach..."" or "Another consideration might be ..."
There will be table tents for each team to have visible at meetings to support the practice of these norms to support collaboration.

Kelly's Koaching Korner - Talking Chips and Morning Meeting
Morning Meeting
80 Morning Meeting Ideas (click link) was copied by Hallie Gaines. There is a copy in the office. Or, I scanned it to MH Staff drive. Hopefully this will help you plan activities. Thanks Halie Gaines!
This week, Mr. Johnson was using pennies in group to allow students to add their 2 cents. ALL students were contributing to discussion. This idea reminds me of the Kagan structure: Talking Chips-click blue to see ideas and copies of talking chips and how to use them in different content areas.
Teammates place a “talking chip” in the center of the table each time they talk. No one can talk again until all chips have been used, and teammates collect their chips for another round.
Benefits for students...
...each get a turn to speak and are accountable to teammates for contributing.
...contribute spontaneously, as there is no predefined sequence.
...participate more equally.
...cannot interrupt; they practice respectful listening
...who are shy are encouraged to participate.

Response to Behavior Ideas
BEHAVIOR PREVENTATIVE STRATEGIES:
-Give students a choice (You can use the red pen or the black pen)
-Use 4 positives to 1 negative when communicating with students
-Make sure students needs are being met (think holistically- do we need to consider
counseling, do they need an accommodation, more support, etc)
-Be effective when giving instructions (highly engaging, targeted, with objectives)
-Use classroom management strategies (proximity control, grouping, specic expectations)
-Scaffold instruction to target students needs
-Use de-escalation strategies (lower your voice, do not engage, use less language, calming
breathing strategies, cool down time).
-Teach self advocacy skills.
HELPFUL LINKS TO IDENTIFY MOTIVATION AND REINFORCEMENTS:
Blue Forms
I have noticed that we've been called to some rooms lately, but we haven't received a blue form. Please remember, blue forms are filled out when a student goes to a buddy room OR when you need to call for support. If you are ever in doubt, just shoot me a text. 314.550.6546
