The Pizitz Post
for Students, Parents & Families - May 22, 2023
A Strong Finish
As a school, we recently received an invitation to be recognized as one of the top twenty-five schools in Alabama. That is wonderful news to commemorate a great year. When scanning the list, a colleague took note that Pizitz is the only middle school listed in the top twenty-five. That news was even better than expected! Our learning community collaborates together to meet the needs of all of our learners. What a wonderful accomplishment for our whole school!
This weekend, our eighth graders had the opportunity to celebrate their time at Pizitz at the school's annual banquet and party. The kids (and chaperones) had a great time. It was such a gift to see them enjoying themselves, including students who came by themselves, and cheering on friends who are a little more hesitant to participate. As we head into the last week, and enjoy Pirate's Creed Assembly and Pirate's Day, I am hopeful that we will have the opportunity to see more of that camaraderie and kindness in our students. Pizitz is a special place. Let's go, Pirates!
Looking Ahead to 2023-2024
Parents and Families, we hope you have a wonderful summer. We will miss seeing our students this summer. We hope you enjoy the break!
Please note that we will be sending out more information prior to the start of the school year. We would like everyone to mark their calendars for these two dates:
- August 8: Pirate Preview Day (an opportunity for all grades to receive carpool and locker information and meet the teachers)
- August 9: First Day of School
Last Week, Best Week!
We are looking forward to finishing the year strong with our students. Here are a few dates to note for this week:
- May 22 Yearbook Distribution
- May 23: Pirate Creed Assemblies (by grade-level)
- May 24: Pirate's Day
- May 25: Last Day of School, Class Parties, 2-Hour Early Dismissal
A Few Things to Note
- Please make arrangements to pick up your child's medications from the health room before summer break. Any medications left after May 25 will be thrown away. Please note, students can NOT pick up medications. Email or call Nurse Nancy if you have any questions/concerns (hennekern@vhcs.us or 205-402-5376).
- Lost & Found has been set in the front of the school. Any items that are not collected by May 25 will be donated.
2023-2024 Supply Sale!
The Pizitz PTO Supply & Book Sale is open. Avoid the stores in August and get your back-to-school shopping done now! It's convenient, and it's one of Pizitz PTO's fundraisers.
Check out the link here: Supply & Book Sale Link
Kits are available for sale until June 16th, with a pick up day in early August.
* If you have a rising 5th grade student(s) and also a current Pizitz student, you will need to complete a separate order to purchase 6th Grade books and supplies. Because current 5th grade students aren't yet in the Pizitz Membership Toolkit database, we will ask you to make a note of the student's name.
* To order books and supplies for your rising 7th and 8th grade students, log in to the Pizitz Membership Toolkit website and you can make a purchase via the store with the item assigned to your student.
* Supply kits vary slightly; for example, the 7th grade supply kit includes a calculator. Make sure you're ordering a kit for the grade your student will attend in the 2023-2024 school year.
Thank you for your support! Email pizitzpto@gmail.com with any questions.
