A Message From the Principal

Happy Weekend Titans!

The 8th Grade Dance was a sight to behold. Our 8th graders were dressed for an evening of fun and elegance. Thank you to all the PTSA parent volunteers for transforming our school into a magical place. Our parents transported our 8th graders to the city of Paris, and what an adventure it was!

Next week, we will be hosting two meetings back-to-back on May 10th in the Media Center. Dr. Bearden will be giving parents direction on accademic courses in middle school. This talk is designed to give parents an idea of what to expect as your child travels through middle school and heads towards high school, and beyond. This talk is for all grade levels, including rising 6th-grade parents. Also, Dr. Bearden will briefly go through the opt-out process at the beginning of the meeting for 8th-grade parents. Our Parent Liaison will be asking our parents to help us map out our school-wide plan for 2018-2019. Lisa O'Hanlon Cowles will be conducting an input meeting just prior to Dr. Bearden's meeting and then again after school.

Parents, as we head towards the finish line, we have exciting mile markers. Battle of the Titans (BOTT) is coming up, 8th grade Career Day, Device Collection, and our Promotions and Awards Ceremonies. We will be asking for parents to attend and help with these events.

Device Return Volunteers are needed! All Dell Latitude laptops, along with power cords and cases, need to be collected. Return dates are Tuesday - Thursday, May 15-17 in the Media Center. Device Collection Schedule:

  • Tuesday, 5/15: 6th-grade device collection through science classes
  • Wednesday, 5/16: 7th-grade device collection through science classes
  • Thursday, 5/17: 8th-grade device collection through science classes
  • Friday, 5/18: Make up for any students who were absent on their device day.

Opioid Epidemic Workshop @ Centennial HS on 5/8 @ 6 PM

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, Commissioner Hausmann along with the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority is inviting the community to attend the 2018 North Fulton County Community Health Forum at Centennial High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., to have a discussion and offer resources to help families, friends and neighbors who may be in a crisis due to the recent Opioid epidemic affecting our communities.

One of Our Own Teachers Has Leukemia

Please Help Us to Send our Love & Support to Mrs. Emily Lamos, GNETs Teacher at Elkins Pointe.

Emily Lamos, one of our teachers on the Great Hall, will be out for the remainder of this school year. Some of you know that Emily battled Leukemia about 10 years ago and found out that it has returned. She was immediately admitted to the Northside Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Northside Hospital to begin treatment. Emily will be in the hospital for at least the next 4-6 weeks while they work to put cancer into remission. She will then have a Stem Cell Transplant. Emily has a good outlook as she is anxious to get through this and get home to her boys, Ian (4 years old) & Ben (4 months old), and her husband, Josh. Emily has her mother, sister, and mother-in-law in the area for support, and they would appreciate out Titan family helping them by lending our love and support too.

Good Evening,

I am incredibly grateful for the support of both my Elkins Pointe and GNETs families during this difficult time. The meal train and monetary donations are especially helpful in caring for my family while I undergo treatment.

Many people have reached out asking what they can do to help, and one thing that makes a real difference is platelet donation. Please share the attached information. A patient like me will need to receive 30-50 units of platelets during treatment. It only takes a little out of one afternoon and can help save a life like mine.

Heart of Gold & Badge of Honor

Officer Jones bought over $50 worth of school supplies from the Elkins Pointe School Store this week. He is taking them this weekend to the Stapelton School in the Bahamas, which is a school for the disabled and extremely underfunded. Officer Jones supported both the PTSA and the Stapleton School at the same time.

Apples of Our Eye!

Apple Avalon Field Trip for Girls Who Code with Ms. Lindesay

Imagine walking into a room and everyone was applauding your entrance while your name was on the BIG SCREEN! Well, that's just what Apple did for our Titan Techie Girls when they arrived for their field trip! They made us feel welcomed the entire time. Our girls were able to work with Apple by using Swift Playgrounds to code. It required some teamwork on their part and they were up for the challenge. These girls represented our school very well by answering questions, solving the problems, coding, and even having the codes that they created aired on the big screen in the Apple store. Before we left, Apple provided us with some Apple "swag" which we proudly posed in our Girl Power pics!

Ms. Lindesay would like to thank all of these girls for working so hard this year and representing our school on the Apple Avalon Trip for Girls Who Code. Special thanks to Principal Kindra Smith, Rodney Jones, Susan Foertsch, Susan Rickson, and Vani Jacob for their support and making this trip happen.

Greg Garza from Atlanta United Soccer Team came to speak at Elkins Pointe. These lucky soccer fans were treated to an hour with Greg. Greg Garza (center) is in the middle with the shades hanging off his shirt. Title I District Input Meetings - 5/15, 5/16, 5/17

We are excited to invite all Title I parents, families and community stakeholders to our upcoming Annual District Parent, Family and Community Stakeholder Meeting to revise our 2017-2018 District Parent and Family Engagement Plan for the 2018-2019 school year.

Three locations, 3 days and up to 4 times are scheduled for your convenience:

  • Tuesday, May 15th at Lake Forest Elementary at 5920 Sandy Springs Circle in Sandy Springs at 8:30 am and 4:30 pm
  • Wednesday, May 16th at S. L. Lewis Elementary at 6201 Connell Road in College Park at 8:30 am only
  • Thursday, May 17th at the South Fulton Regional Library at 4055 Flat Shoals Road in Union City at 10:30 am, 1 pm and 4:30 pm.

Pick Up ALL Medications from the Clinic by the end of the Year!


  • Non-Prescription medications will be disposed of if not picked up by end of school year. Prescription medications will be NOT be held. ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE PICKED UP ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!

  • All medications for the 2018-2019 school year will need NEW medication forms filled out. If the medication is prescribed, doctor orders and signature are required. The orders MUST match the prescription on the bottle.


  • Do not wait until school has started to get doctor signatures. It can sometimes take several weeks to get forms filled out.
  • Be sure that medications are in the original container and not expired.
  • Keep in mind the clinic only dispenses medication that a parent has provided. If your child needs medication at school, please plan ahead.

PTSA needs YOUTH DAY Parade Float Chair Needed for 2018/2019. If you can help Elkins Pointe be represented in the Roswell Youth Day Parade, please email Kristin Kelly at kelleyrk@gmail.com. For the past four years, Elkins Pointe Middle School has won a trophy in the parade. We promise that if you build a float for us, it will win a trophy! The middle school category is under-represented and the trophy is our for the taking.

  • 7/30 - Principal Fireside Chat and "Middle School 101" for 6th grade and New-to-the-school Parents @ 8:30 am to 9:30 am. This introductory workshop is everything you wanted to know about middle school but afraid to ask! The introduction will be by Principal Smith and the 6th-grade Assistant Principal. A comprehensive presentation on everything from school supplies, to what kind of shoes to wear to Information Day, and how to check-out your child for an orthodontist appointment will be given by the Parent Liaisons. This presentation is 1 hour long. it is not mandatory, but helpful to newbies!

Cotillion Info for the 2018-2019 School Year

Mark your calendar and save the date!! The Bridges/North Atlanta Cotillion is coming January 2019! We are excited to start our classes on Sunday, January 6 at The Country Club of Roswell! Come have fun with us while learning dance and etiquette! Registration will open November 1st. This is not your grandmother’s cotillion!

  • Seventh Graders will learn basic ballroom dancing and popular dance (Shag, Swing, Free Style, Line, and Slow), as well as many important social and professional skills the students will need to know now and throughout their lives. The Seventh Grade class will culminate in a Parents Showcase displaying the Program as parents observe all their child has learned. Students will also enjoy a 50's Party filled with games, contests, dancing, and pizza!
  • Eighth Graders, the classes will review the basics taught in year one, and the students will learn many new dances including Latin, Swing, and Hustle. An extensive Table Manners segment will further develop your child’s social graces. Dating, interviews and making conversation will also be covered. The Eighth Grade Program will culminate in a Dinner Dance that brings all of the students’ new skills into practice. New students are always welcome in 8th grade.

You can expect your child to gain confidence in our classes, and learn how to greet, shake hands and converse with adults—an all-important skill as the dating years approach. They will also discuss social media etiquette! But most of all, your teen will have fun! Let's Hear It for the Band!

The Band trip went very well and the students represented EPMS admirably!The students earned the following placements:
  • 7th-grade Symphonic Band 2: 1st place in their division
  • 8th-grade Symphonic Band 1: 1st place in their division
  • 8th-grade Symphonic Band 1: 2nd place overall in Bands. The even beat a high school group.
Thank you to our amazing parent chaperones, EPMS faculty, and Dr. Brown who made every aspect of this trip easy and fun. Thank you also to our fantastic Band Director, Mr. Todd Wilson, and Band Assistant, Kate Burhardt.

Online Health & PE Course Info for Rising 9th-Grade Students

Clearing up some confusion on the "Online" Health & PE Courses Info for Rising 9th-Grade Students:

To register your child for a summer online course at the high school level, please contact Mr. WIll Jones at jonesw3@fultonschools.org.


  1. * To register your rising 9th-grader for an online summer course, you MUST contact your middle school guidance counselor for the class to count towards high school credit. If your child registers prior to their promotion from middle school, the counselor needs to APPROVE the summer course. High school summer course registration opened in March 2018.
  2. ** Health must be taken in order for a student to get their drivers license, but not to get a permit. Students must present proof of high school attendance to the DMV to get their permit. To get their license, students must complete Health course which includes all DVM requirements. NOTE: Please research the Georgia Driver License Requirements to make sure your child's online Health class meets all the requirements.
  3. *** PE & HEALTH MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE FOUR YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL. They are high school graduation requirements.


  • The high school Health & PE courses may be taken any semester as a .5 semester class or online during the summer. These .5 credit classes must be taken prior to graduation.
  • Health is a requirement to get a Georgia Drivers License.
  • Parents are responsible for the payment of online summer courses.
  • Health and PE courses which are taken at the high school during the school year are free of charge.

Camp Invention

This is a great opportunity for students to work with experienced Camp Instructors to be a positive mentor and coach, encourage and inspire children to push the limits of their imagination, collaborate, and ignite team spirit and fun. At the end, each CIT will receive program certification and an official recommendation letter.

Here’s a brief description of Camp Invention and all the adventures that it entails:

Wild and crazy ideas become reality in this year’s all-new Camp Invention program, Fast Forward!

A nonprofit program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention allows children in kindergarten through 6th grade to experience real-world problem solving, creative thinking, invention, and teamwork – all while having FUN! Activities include challenges and achievements from the brightest thinkers around—National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees – to inspire children! This year, campers will bring their “smart” home to life with smart furniture and eco-smart energy, design a robotic dog and diagnose puppy problems, explore sensors by designing tracks for an Optibot, a robot that senses dark and light surfaces, and builds Cake Catapults! Titan Support for a Fellow Middle Schooler

Titans Support...As some of you may have seen or heard, Ella Griggs who is a 7th grader at Crabapple Middle School suffered a hemorrhagic stroke while at lacrosse practice in late March. She was rushed to the hospital and spent almost a month in ICU. Today, she is in stable condition but remains hospitalized while undergoing extensive rehabilitation.
