Congratulations to the Harris County Scholastic Art awardees! All Gold and Silver Key award-winning art will be on exhibit at Spring Street Studios from February 18 to March 17.

  • Elsik High School - 7 Gold Keys and 11 Silver Keys
  • Hastings High School - 1 Gold Key and 8 Silver Keys
  • Kerr High School - 2 Gold Keys and 6 Silver Keys
  • Taylor High School - 6 Silver Keys

Taylor High School students Shea Whiting and Khambrail Winters were named Blue-Grey All-Americans.

The two Division 1 prospects represented Alief ISD and led Team Lone Star to a 29-10 victory against Team 49 at NRG Stadium. The game was televised on ESPN3.

Alief ISD Counseling Facilitator LaTrenda Watson was named Texas School Counselor Association's Counselor Supervisor of the Year.

Watson was selected for this distinguished state recognition based on her contributions to the field of school counseling, her professional school counseling experience and leadership participation in the areas of supervision, professional development, program implementation and program advocacy.

The Miller Intermediate School Counseling Team received the CREST Award. Miller Intermediate School counselor Shawn Sumpter was also named Middle School Counselor of the Year.

The awards are given by the Texas School Counselor Association. The CREST Award, which stands for Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas, is sponsored by the association and is awarded to exemplary counseling programs. Sumpter, one of Miller's two counselors, was also recognized as the top intermediate/middle school counselor in the state.
