February Ridge Raptor Report

Preparing Students to be Succesful for Life

From the Principal

Thank you to parents for participating in our school survey conducted before winter break. Below is the feedback received from 70 respondents who answered the survey questions. Statements, to the question, What is important to you in terms of what you want from your child's learning experience at Ridge? were rated by parents on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being "least important" and 5 being "most important". Below are the statements with the percentage of responses that listed the statement a 4 or 5.

What is important to you in terms of what you want from your child's learning experience at Ridge?

Being Prepared to be Successful for Life (85%)

Safety (82%)

21st century Skills (Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Communication) (77%)

Students pursuing their Passions and Interests (72%)

Student Choice and Ownership in their learning (70%)

Grades (68%)

Balanced School Calendar (68%)

Multi-Age learning Experiences (55%)

Homework (53%)

Standardized Test Scores (38%)

The main reasons respondents listed for choosing Ridge was full day Kindergarten, the balanced calendar, and a longer school day. Other reasons listed included social emotional learning, Ridge's focus on family and community, working together, and an excellent staff dedicated to students.

When asked, What do you see in the future for Ridge?, answers included expanding to include grades 6, 7, and 8, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) focus, science based learning, and less standardized testing.

We certainly concur with parents on the importance of safety, as well as preparing students to be successful for life and utilizing 21st century learning skills as a focus of student learning.

The information and data will be used in our planning for continuous improvement. Please note that Ben Grey, Assistant Superintendent for Innovative Learning and Communication, and I will make a preliminary presentation at the February 22 Board of Education meeting regarding the future possibility to expand Ridge to a K-8 school.
