Starting Monday, Sept. 14, Andover Public Schools is offering free meals to all students through a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The free meal program will last until Dec. 18, 2020, or when federal funds run out, whichever comes first.

Students who are attending school in-person can receive their free breakfast or lunch in the cafeteria like they normally would.

On days they are learning from home, students in a hybrid model may pick up breakfast and lunch from noon-1 p.m. Monday through Friday at these locations:

  • Andover High School loading dock, Door P.
  • Andover Central High School loading dock, Door N.

Parents may pick up meals for their students. No meal pick-up will be available on days when school is not in session. Only students of Andover Public Schools are eligible.

While meals will be free for now, we still encourage families who qualify to complete a free/reduced meal application form. This will prepare them for when this program ends, so they can continue to receive free or reduced meal prices and will also allow for other fee reduction opportunities. Applications can be completed online. Any questions on the program or Child Nutrition Applications may be directed to Bonnie Scarth at

Starting next week, we will no longer be offering Option 3 (salads) to the lunch menu.

Also, please remind your children that what is on the menu is what they will get in their pre-made lunch box. If they don't like what is on the menu they will need to bring a sack lunch.

Check-In and Check-Out Procedures

Checking students out

Office staff will conduct all signing in and out of students. Parents may call to check-out students and then the student is sent out to the parent with visual identification. For in-person checking out, once a student is checked out, the parent will go back to their vehicle and the student will be sent out by the office.

Checking students in

Staff members will check students in to create a touchless system. Students need to have temperature checked before proceeding to class if they are arriving for the first time that day.

ROADMAP TO REOPENING: Family Playbook 2020-2021

This playbook will continue to evolve as we add resources and as conditions change in our community’s health situation during the year. We want this to be a “living” document and a place that you can go for the latest information about the school year. As we continue to update you during the year, we will let you know of significant changes or additions that are made to this playbook.

As always, we appreciate your partnership and support of your child’s education.

Everything you need to know is in the Family Playbook!
