What's Happening At Brooks?

A Little Friendly Competition

9/17/23

Dear Brooks Community,

To our families celebrating Rosh Hashanah this weekend and Yom Kippur next weekend, we wish you a peaceful and enjoyable holiday with family and friends.

Last week, we had so much fun watching our students and teachers strategize for our PTA Coin Challenge. The friendly competition between students AND STAFF, has been entertaining to watch! Ultimately, the fun has led to raising enough money for the first Gaga Pit on the playground. PTAs goal is to raise enough funds for a 2nd Gaga Pit. Keep those coins coming!

PS - If Gaga Ball is a new term to you, read below!

Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Dubbed a kinder gentler version of dodge ball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, everyone gets a serious workout.

Thank you!

Attendance and On-Time Arrival

Recently, you received a digital and paper copy of research related to student attendance at school. Please remember, we want children to be home if they are sick. In addition, we realize there are family circumstances that require brief absences from school. I am a "family first" Mom myself! Our attendance and on-time arrival messages are meant as reminders for students missing school or arriving late for no legitimate reason. If you have questions about your child's arrival times or attendance, don't hesitate to call me.

Attendance Matters Tidbit:

Did you know: If your child misses one day, every two weeks:

  • That equals 20 days per year
  • Which is 4 weeks per year
  • Which equates to 1 1/2 years over their 13 year school career

Fall Picture Day - Thursday, September 21

Fall Picture Day will be Thursday, September 21. If you choose to order pictures, you may order on line or send your child with the picture envelope. If you choose not to order pictures, your child will still be photographed for the yearbook. Yearbooks are available for purchase with many of the picture packages. Please assure your child is prepared for picture day and thank you for understanding we will not interrupt class time for picture related drop offs.

If your child is absent, make-up picture day will be on November 9.

Lunchroom Supplies - Reminder

If your child brings his or her own lunch to school, thank you for packing the necessary plastic utensils. Our extra supplies have been quickly depleted. Thank you!
