Chico Unified Secondary Parents and Guardians, We need your input!
In light of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) change in school reopening criteria, Chico Unified School District is discussing the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a full-day instructional model.
The CDPH classroom social distancing criteria has changed from the previously recommended six-foot spacing with an absolute four-foot minimum, to the recently released three-foot guideline (view the CDPH Guidance:https://bit.ly/3lOiHWP). While COVID cases are declining across the county, Butte County is currently in the Red Tier with a 3.9 adjusted case rate and a 2.1% positivity rate (7-day average). Masks and social distancing are still required in public and when on school grounds.
When considering a change in the instructional model, it is our goal: a) to place a priority on student and staff safety; and b) to minimize change to student schedules, including a change of teachers.
A full-day instructional model would closely replicate the student day in place last year prior to the COVID school closures. This would include passing periods as well as lunch. To minimize changes to student schedules at the secondary level (grades 6-12), students would NOT be able to move from online to in-person or from in-person to site-based online classes. Students could, however, move to the Online Independent Study Program offered through Oak Bridge Academy or (on a space-available basis) the Chico High School Panther or the Pleasant Valley High School Viking Online Academy.
Knowing these parameters, please indicate your preference for the instructional model for the remainder of the current school year. The input and responses will be provided to the Board of Education for discussion at the April 7, 2021 Board of Education meeting.
Please fill out one survey form per child.
