Ohio State Testing
It’s almost that time again, the Ohio State Testing will begin at Buckeye Intermediate School on Thursday, April 7th. We have been busy preparing and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to demonstrate their learning. It is important that our students have every advantage to do their very best on test day. Please make sure our students are well rested and eat a good breakfast on testing days since this has proven to help student attitude, mental awareness, and performance. Tests will begin promptly at 9:30am. Please note, if students arrive to school after testing has begun, they will be prohibited from entering the classroom and will have to remain in the office until testing is finished.

Portrait of a Buck
Each month, Buckeye Elementary students are encouraged to focus on one element from the Buckeye Local School District’s Portrait Of A Buck program. In February, students worked on Collaboration by using teamwork, being a good listener, including others, and compromising. Congratulations to Presley Herman for being named the BPS February Student of the Month and Mason Bodach for being named the BIS February Student of the Month!
Presley Herman, BPS Student of the Month for February 2022
Presley Herman is a 2nd grade student at Buckeye Primary School. In the month of February, students learned what it meant to be good collaborators. You are a good collaborator when demonstrating teamwork, are a good listener, and like to include others. When I met with Presley today, I learned a lot about her.
Her favorite subject in school is math because it is hard and she likes challenging things. She also likes to read, especially books about mermaids. In her spare time, she participates in dance, basketball, and plays outside with her brother and sister. She loves being a part of her family, because her mom and dad are fun and always have time for her. Her favorite meal is pizza and chicken noodle soup. Her favorite color is purple. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up so she can help other kids. She is most looking forward to playing mini golf this summer.
Presley Herman is an excellent example of what it means to be a star student and especially a collaborator. She will work with others and make it a point to get along with others while working together. She is willing to work with anyone her teacher asks her to work with. She is a role model for other students with her behaviors in collaboration as well as in all facets of the classroom. She strives to do her best in all areas. Her teacher is very proud of all of her hard work and willingness to work with others to make things great!
Mason Bodach, BIS Student of the Month for February 2022
Mason Bodach is our student of the month for February because he has done a great job modeling the Portrait of a Buck! Mason was chosen this month for being an excellent example of a collaborator for his peers.
Buckeye Intermediate School continues to be an excellent place for students to learn and grow because of students like Mason. After hearing what his teacher said about him, there is no surprise to why he is student of the month. The teacher that nominated him said, he examplifies a portrait of a Buck by bringing leadership to our class by showing respect to all with his very generous spirit while being a problem solver, helpful, smart, and athletic. He is consistently kind and polite to his peers and staff members and goes above and beyond by always lending a helping hand when needed. It has been a great privilege to have Mason Bodach as my student this year and I am honored to be able to nominate him for the student of the month. Mason is the epitome of what it means to be a Buckeye student.
Besides being a great academic student, Mason spends a great deal of time outside of school staying active. Mason participates in wrestling, football, and baseball. In a few weeks, he will be representing Buckeye Wrestling in the OAC Youth Wrestling State Tournament. To no surprise, when Mason has free time, he enjoys playing kickball with his friends.
We are so lucky to have a student like Mason here at Buckeye Intermediate School, and look forward to seeing his continued success. Congratulations Mason!

Spring into Reading Program
The American Federation of Teachers, AFT, is having a campaign to get 1 million free books
into children's hands. Buckeye Local Education Association, BLEA, Buckeye’s teacher union,
was fortunate enough to team up with AFT and the Ohio Federation of Teachers, OFT, to
receive enough books to give every one of our preschool through sixth grade students a free
book of their choice. Julie Dull, BLEA’s VP, ran a Spring into Reading program this past week at
the elementary building where every student in the building was able to choose a book to take
home and enjoy.
Melissa Cropper, OFT’s President, was even on hand on Monday to help out and watch the
students smile as they pick out a book to own! Special thanks to AFT, OFT, Melissa Cropper
and BLEA for their vision and generosity. Also, special thanks to Julie Dull for all her hard work
to execute this event.

Mr. Craig Bailey, the former superintendent of Buckeye Local Schools, was the founder of the foundation in 2003. Mr. Bailey was the first person to have the vision of what a positive impact establishing an education foundation could be for our district. Through much hard work, commitment and perseverance, Mr. Bailey made that vision a reality at Buckeye!
We are honored to have had Mr. Craig J. Bailey serve our district with such high standards, excellence and integrity. We hope you will join us by running with our Buckeye students and families to not only raise money to support our Buckeye School district but to honor a legacy.
