Message from the Principal

Hello Alder Parents, Teachers and Students,

This week flew by quickly at Alder. With the holidays approaching, there is never enough time.

I must begin by sharing a very special announcement: Alder’s Teacher of the Year and our Educational Services Professional of Year for the 20- 21 school year. I feel like we need a drumroll, so please insert /drumroll/ here. Our Teacher of the Year is 8th grade English Language Arts Teacher, Marisa Lehrer. Our Educational Services Professional is paraprofessional, Jennifer Perez. We are so fortunate to have both of these exceptional educators on staff at Alder. Please reach out and share your celebratory words and well wishes. In the months to come, we are looking forward to celebrating this amazing recognition and their accomplishments even more.

We are also still involved in a Battle of the Pages with Fernwood. Alder’s students are continuing to read, count those pages, and create book trailers and/or posters. These look great students! Keep reading and keep up the great work. Check out Mrs. Pistoia’s webpage to monitor progress and read about our achievements. Check out the competition if you want to be sure we are ahead. Keep encouraging our students.

We reached out through School Messenger this week about Alder families in need during the holidays. We have many families who need our help and we also have received an incredible amount of community support and donations. If you care to donate a gift card or gift, our counselors and administration are involved in this effort. On December 18th, we plan on collecting donations; such as gifts and gift cards in our parking lot loop. More details to come about times and parameters for safety and social distancing if you want to drop something off. Keep in mind that if any parents or families want to support other Alder families in need, we will surely take donations. Our Parents’ Club, Renaissance Club, and Student Council are working hard to assist between 8-12 families. This past week I have witnessed the heartfelt humanity of our Alder SChool Family. Like many of you, I feel fortunate to be part of such a great group. Have a great weekend and week ahead. Please stay safe. Remember to reach out if we can help.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Purple Team Science

An Evil Scientist tried to take over the world & is sending a signal that is blocking technology. Mrs. Joy created an Escape Room for the Purple Team Students to use what they knew about WAVES to decode the signal, get out of their classroom, and beat defeat the evil scientist.

Green Team Social Studies

Dr. Damiso Josey former Alder VP, came to visit Green Team Social Studies and talk about the importance of studying history and perform his Remix of the Declaration of Independence Poem.

Green Team AMONG US

On Friday, students from Ms. Wenzel's class reviewed the Declaration of Independence using the Gimkit platform. This week's theme was Among Us, and was a big hit with the students! A shoutout to the Foreign Language department for sharing the game with the staff!
