10/5 ERD Model & Try & Semester 2 ERD Plan
How Do We Create Structures to Release Discussions and the Work Back to Students?
MODEL & TRY:
· With your PLC, think about a current/upcoming unit or lesson.
· Use the Rapid Release Planning Guide to "flip" the teaching and learning in your classroom for one day/lesson.
- Utilize the resources for productive struggle, Kagan, Costa's Levels of Questioning and Core Action 2 & 3 of the IPG tool while you are planning.
- Rapid Release Planning Guide.docx
· Select 2 strategies to implement into your Rapid Release plan.
- By the next ERD, implement your Rapid Release plan into your classroom.
- Upload your PLC's Rapid Release Plan to your PLC NOTEBOOK in Sharepoint folder.
We would love to visit your classroom when you implement your Rapid Release Plan. Learning in action is the very best kind of learning!
Semester 2 ERD Plan:
Although the ERD half days have been moved to full days in semester 2, we will be continuing with Enrichment Activity days through the AM schedule (43 minute lunches) on the originally scheduled dates. We will also be continuing with PD sessions from 1:40PM-2:20PM. We will continue with the department potlucks as assigned but would suggest snacks or desserts since it is after lunch. Looking forward to continuing to learn and grow together! #RRMSALLIN

10/24-10/28 - F Parent Calls
We have run a report of current Core and High School elective F’s for the first quarter and the list can be found on SharePoint at the link: Provided in Angie's email.
We need ALL staff to please check the list to see if you have been identified to make a call home, and if so, follow the steps below by dating the spreadsheet of when you have made the call (step 1), following topics to be covered (step 2), and documenting the call in EWS (step 3). This will need to be done during the week of Oct 24/Nov 1 and CAN BE DONE IN PLACE OF PLC’s. If there are concerns raised by the parent during the call that need to be followed up on by administration or a counselor, please email us directly. We will be looking at students that failed 3 or more core courses to start them in promotion recovery this quarter, starting with math first, which is why administration and counselors are making those calls.
Report Card Contact with Parents and Students
Objective: Notify parents of students who are off track for promotion, given that report cards are not printed and state statute requires formal notification.
We want and need family support! Remember, parents are our partners in education! Thank you for making an extra effort to support our students. We want them to master essential standards and be on track for promotion to high school.
1. If a student will be receiving a failing grade (F) in a core content class, as identified on the list, parents must be notified by phone. We will help with dividing up students and assign staff members to call parents. Parents need to only receive 1 phone call.
If a student will be receiving a D or F in a high school course (algebra/geometry/ASL/Digital Media/Spanish) a parent must be notified by phone.
2. Phone call should cover these topics:
a. Courses the student is failing.
b. Students must pass ELA, math, science and social studies all 3 years in middle school to be eligible for promotion with a D or higher.
c. Parent logging in and checking myStudent weekly.
3. Document phone call in EWS. Please try all parent contacts until you have exhausted the list.
-You can copy and paste this in EWS:
Called (mom, dad, guardian) to let them know that their student is earning an F on their quarter 1 report card in (course listed ). Suggested they check myStudent weekly to monitor child’s progress
-If you cannot reach the parent, please list the number you left a message on in EWS. Copy and paste in EWS: Left message at (phone number) due to failing grades on quarter 1 report card. Followed up with email to parent.
Email parent:
Hello,
Your child is earning an F on their quarter 1 report card in one or more courses. I have left you a message to discuss your child’s grades. As a reminder, students must pass all 4 core content courses (ELA, math, science and social studies) all 3 years in middle school to be eligible for promotion to high school. At this time your child is off track. You can support your child’s academic success by logging into myStudent weekly and checking grades and assignments.
Thank you, Teacher Name
