A Principal's Perspective
As we were learning about Ipadpalooza ideas and apps, it made me think about lobsters. What do lobsters have to do with learning? Well, in the short clip below Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski talks about how we grow during times of stress and adversity just like a lobster grows a new shell! Chris, Sara, Julie, Jessica, Carrie, Tracy, Ruth and Vicki were probably stressed learning new things and then having to share with fellow colleagues at our first tech workshop. However, they grew from the experience both in learning new things and by developing their leadership capacity in teaching others. Watch the short video about lobsters from Rabbi Twerski. What do lobsters have to do with learning? Lobster shells sometimes get a little uncomfortable for the lobster, just like you might think about our own professional growth or student learning. Both taking a risk and learning new things can be difficult, stressful and uncomfortable. I liked this short video because it gives a great analogy between lobsters and how being uncomfortable with our current reality helps us grow professionally. If you really want to see a cool science lesson, take a look at the 2nd video of an actual lobster shedding its shell for a new one!
